I have an 81 Toyota 4x4 longbed with 30,000 original miles and was wondering what it should go for if I were to sell it. I don't really want t sell it but one of my neighbors keeps bugging me abut it, and I'm thinking about giving in if I can get a decent amount for it. The paint is fading (it lived most of its life under a tree in Arizona), but other than that it is in great shape. It is an sr5 and has all the original parts still intact; am/fm radio, original seats, original rollbar, original front pushbar, etc.
Thanks for any help.

round here, i would expect one like that to list for 4900.
i would spend a max of 3900 on it. i dont care if its old and out dated. that toyota will out last any pos mopar product. thats a FACT!:flipoff2:

BKG, there was a VERY nice 83 on the marlin board a month ago, interior completely redone, body was perfect, fresh paint, etc. It appeared perfect from the pics and was a central CA truck- so no rust. Guy tried for more than a month to get $4K. I assume it was also listed locally.

Would you pay $5K for a 25 year old 22R, carburated truck? I wouldn't. I see nice ones, extra cab, early 90's, you pick if you want the V-6 or 22RE for $3-4K all time.

I've seen a low mile 1st gen 4Runner go for over 12K on ebay. A 2nd gen xtracab go for almost 10K. Ultra nice 3rd gen xtracabs have gone for 2K over BB in CA very often.

No - it's not worth that much to a "wheeler" which is why no one will get crap for anything on a board. But ebay is a different story.

If you can find me an early 90's xtracab SR5 w/ a V6, 5-speed, all the options including sunroof, no rust and uber-clean in white or gray for 4K, I'll give YOU a $500 finders fee.

81 value

BKG is absolutely right; clean, low mileage Toyotas on Ebay bring premium prices.

Case in point: I recently sold my 81 completely stock 86k mile 4X4 truck for $7500. Granted, my truck had every option including the moonroof...but I've seen them go for even higher with lower miles.

Fj-Junkie - Put it on Ebay and tell your neighbor about it. If he really wants it, he'll have to pony up and compete with some real money.

Miles ? I'm looking for myself as well, and I'm pretty confident I can find two. I'm holding out until I can find one with a blown 3.0 so I can just swap my junk from my 4runner over. You're in Minn right? Would you fly out and drive it back or ?

BTW, I don't disagree that some people think there's some sorta collector status in unblemished first gen trucks, but I see them out here (Sacramento) for $2000 all the time.

One of the guys on my local club list, also on this board, had a PERFECT 94 extra cab, white, loaded, clean SAS w/ FJ80 front axle, ARB's, AllPro style rear bumper, sliders, etc. 3.0 had 30K on the rebuild. It was sick. Took him 2+ months to sell it, think it went for ~10.5K. It was on pirate for a while too.

Here's an example of one at a dealer, they are asking 5K I'm sure it's negotiable: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/car/226247531.html

Another: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/car/225346972.html

Here's the query http://sfbay.craigslist.org/search/car?query=toyota 4x4 pickup

Built trucks seem to have a poor market right now. Wish I had known about that one.

First link is deleted. Second isn't an SR5, which is typically what I'm seeing. I'm definitely checking out the link...

Not hugely concerned about miles as long as the body, mechanicals, interior are in excellent condition. Truck will be a long term build, so I'm not overly concerned about mileage.

I'd consider fly & drive, but I've found it cheaper to ship, depending on location.

What keeps me out of the early 90s is the terrible 3.0. What with the head problems and all, combined with previous owner maintenance or lack of it, I'm gonna pass. Ditto with 4runner, same problemo. Just picked up an 85 xcab with air, ps, super clean body for almost nothing, building it for my daughter.

Thanks for all the input, It sounds like my best bet will be to tell my neighbor I'm going to put it on ebay and let him bid on it if he wants it.

hold on to it.its worth much more than you might get.just my 2 cents.but then again i live in the rust belt.any old toy is worth much more unrusted

Does someone want to help me find a RUST FREE 79 short bed 4x4? I don't care about the engine, trans, transfer case, etc. I want a solid body and frame, thats it!!

Thanks,
Zack
