Vacuum Question

After putting my engine back together, I decided that I want to retune my carb. This might be a dumb question, but will the engine run if I have the Air Cleaner asembly off? I know that there are some vacuum lines that connect to the metal assembly, but do they need to be connected for the engine to run?

Does it idle now without the choke on after replacing the manifolds/gasket?

yes it will, it will also run with the valve cover off and all the other bits

Mine ran quite well when I had the hoses/air cleaner off for modification. Only thing I had to worry about was cleaning the dirt out from under the hood so no grit got in the carb.
