Hey all,

I'm a new 100 series owner (2000 model with 86k) , first land cruiser ever, been lurking on ih8mud for awhile. Brief history is that I started out 2 years ago drooling over fj60's, then fj80's, test driving a few of both, and finally deciding that I needed something that would tow a boat with no problems so I went to the V8.

Anyway, I am interested in the medium load 1.5" OME lift available from slee. I am just mechanically inclined enough to remove the running boards (which I did after this pic was made) but was wondering if anyone knew of an honest mechanic in the eastern part of the state that does this kind of thing. I don't think I would want to attempt something like that.

Of course, if anyone has done a similar lift with no problems, then I could be talked into it, but I think I'd have more piece of mind if a pro did it probably.

Looking forward to maybe getting in on some local trail rides, would love to stretch the legs on this LC a bit and learn a bit about it in the process.

Suspension stuff ain't too hard, get yourself the FSM from the dealership or CDan.

Where in E. NC you at? I'm sure you can get an ONSC Mudder to help out, or at least point you in the direction.

Hit up the ONSC site, join up, begin the fun;)
 
While I don't have a hundred series, looking at the lift I can't see how it would be that hard. It is all just taking your time the first time you do it.

I'm sure the guys that have hundy's though will chime in.

Get involved in the club and I'm sure we can help you lift that great looking 100! The torsion bars up front aren't difficult, overall it shouldn't be difficult at all to lift it...............
 
That is a gorgeous cruiser you have there. My favorite 100 color too.

We have a couple eastern NC members that may chime in here shortly; but as others have mentioned it shouldnt be overly complicated. Read up on the 100 series forum and other's Lift threads to get a head start in your mind and when you get there it seems like familiar territory.

I have been reading up on the subject and the main goal is to bring the front end up a bit, make it a little taller looking. From what I have read, I want to do the lift instead of cranking the torsion bars as i don't want to cause premature wearing of anything.

Thanks for the input. Will post some more pics as things change.

Google offers nothing in Greenville, but you might check out NC4x4 for local shops recommendations as well.

Before buying the lift, I would recommend starting out by buying the larger tires (285/75) to see how you like the effect. That will add 1" of height alone to the truck and you'll need the larger tires after the lift anyway. 285/75s will supposedly fit fine without any suspension change (I'm still running 275/70).

Second, if the front end specifically is sitting low, there is nothing wrong with cranking up the torsion bars a little. Of course, this will require a realignment. Replacing the t-bars with OMEs or whatever to "lift" the front will require cranking them up and increasing the CV angles (decreased a little with Slee's diff drop which will decrease ground clearance). The main difference of OME vs. stock torsion bars is that the OMEs should be a little firmer and should hold the extra, cranked in lift better without sagging.

I'm not trying to talk you out of the lift, but I would recommend learning how the truck handles and performs without the lift first. Plus, the larger tires will fit the stock suspension fine and you can ease into the improvements. I would recommend sliders and maybe a front bumper also.

Thanks again for the input. I know I can fit 285's with no problems but I want to get that front end up a little just to make it sit a little more square. I also tow a lot and feel like the heavier suspension may help a little with that. From what I have read, the lift package from slee actually made the ride better, at least in some folks opinion.

Again, will keep you posted on progress. I think my mechanic here may be able to help me out...at least make sure I don't screw up too bad.
