The ONSC will be at Uwharrie this weekend.

Myself, Belmont and maybe another guy I work with (FJC) are planning on going.

ONSC has Campsite C at Badin Lake Group Site ...and a sign up sheet will be on their forum soon.

It is not the final weekend so should not be too crowded...and hopefully weather is cool and dry...but not too dry (dusty)..:steer:

This is an ONSC event so please be respectful of their requests and sign up if you are going to stay in their campsite. I suspect the rest will be normal with meeting at Outpost around 9am..wheel....lunch at outpost...wheel some more...then back to camp for dinner and drinks and apple pie :D :D:popcorn:

Can also be picked up at Outpost when you buy your $5.00 vehicle pass for Saturday.

Uwharrie National Forest Off

I plan on leaving to be up there by mid afternoon on Friday...is about 250 miles from Charleston. I go to Eldorado Outpost first to fuel up....buy anything I forgot or did not feel like carrying...get some firewood if I did nto bring any....buy my pass for Saturday and put it on my vehicle...and then drive to campground to set up before dark.

We are in Camp C if not mistaken....be sure to go to link above to REGISTER to ensure there is room for you. Cell phones do not work well at campground or in trails....so best bet is text someone to tell them when to expect you or send an email or such while still in civilization.

Calling for rain on Wed, 1 Dec up there....temps in 58-62 range during day and around 32 at night so dress appropriately.

See you there...............

I'll check my calendar, I would like to wheel some more before it closes for the winter.

Is there parking for my tow rig and trailer at the Eldorado outpost or do I need to come in to another parking lot and drive up to the Outpost for sign-in and inspection. I may just come in early Saturday morning, and head back that evening. Shouldn't be a problem to make it there by 8:30, just need to get a game plan together so I don't get lost.

Also it says something about signing up in one of two groups, but I don't see anything on the reg. page for it. Is that something you do when you get to the Outpost?

Thanks,
Jeremy

There is room at the campground to park your rigs and then drive your rig to outpost and trails from there.....or you can park at outpost if you get there around 8-9am at latest in morning to secure a spot.

I usually go straight to outpost on friday when i drive up there....top off fuel, buy food and any needed supplies, buy trail pass for Saturday and get a map of trails if I forgot mine.

Then Saturday morning we usually meet around 9am to air down, let stragglers get passes and food, and then hit the trails by 10am.

If the group is larger than 6-8 vehicles they will break it in two groups...also may divide between those that want to start at HARD CORE TRAILS like Daniel and then climb the rock at KODAK early...versus doing maybe Wolftrap, Dickie Bell, Rocky Mtn Loop or another first. Just depends on who shows up and what they want to do with their rigs.

URE is pretty open right? So if I want to run the soft top on the 40 I shouldn't have to worry about tearing it up anywhere?

Any pics of the closest roof edge to obstacle that I would have to worry about?

Sounds good. I might head out around 5:30 with my son and meet up at the outpost around 8:30 to unload, get a pass, food, etc. on Saturday. I would most likely be one of the ones that would want to hit the busy/harder spots early to save traffic. But it really doesn't matter. From what I hear it shouldn't be a problem to hit all the trails in a day.

Jeremy

The only roof to obstacle you should worry about is on Daniel there is an off camber portion with a tree to drivers side....one of my pics show it. I have never touched the tree but Dave Milligan and Rick Carswell both have marks on their FJCs from it....and people hit it all the time. I never hit it in FJC, FJ60 or my 100...so you should be fine. IT is pretty open though with all the traffic the trails receive...it is not like the fire and forest roads in WNC....so you should be more than fine. BBQBoy drove his FJ40 up there without a hitch as well.

If you are by yourself or one other you MIGHT BE ABLE to do all the trail in one day but I never have. At most with a group I have only done maybe two or three in morning and another two in afternoon. Never been able to do them all. Especially if you dont get started until after 9am...stop for lunch..and then quit an hour before dark to get back to camp and cook before it is too dark.
Daniel- 2 miles
Dickey Bell- 2.7 miles
Dutch John- 2.1 miles
Falls Dam- 3.3 miles
Wolf Den - 1 mile
Sawmill- 1.2 miles
Rocky Mtn Loop - 2.8 miles
Slabpile- 1 mile

Not too worried about having any problems making it through if your 100 didn't hit the roof. Just trying to figure out if I want to run this rare, no longer made soft top I just acquired to keep the wind/cold off my son or not. If the tree you are talking about is the only worry, I should be fine. Looks to have plenty of room for me.

Maybe I'll hook a rope and tow you guys up to speed it along. Must be alot of waiting on others ahead then huh? Can't see why it would take more than a day to run those trails.

Jeremy

sometimes it gets crowded....sometimes somebody needs winching depending on effects of rain, wind, and others tearing it up with big tires..changing the face of the trails and how they work out. Just different every trip....add a little rain and gets real interesting with mix of clay and sand. LOL

See if you would have done something the past two years you would not have all these questions now. :D :D

I've run all the trails there in my jeep with the top on. Never hit any thing with it. I,m with Ron, You will be hard pressed to do all the trails in one day. I was there wheeling for 2 days and did them all. Some of them twice. The climbs on Daniel and Kodak Rock on Rocky Mtn. Loop always get backed up if there is a croud....

(Don't tear up my tires, now)

That's why I am going here instead Gulches again before we trade.;)

bumpity

Brock it will be good to see you again.

Belmont, you can either unload at the outpost and pick up later or at the camp site.
Soft tops shouldn't be a problem I guess it depends how tall the rig is. I know i've hit the top of my rig on a branch before but that might not be a problem for you ;)

I better have my lockers in and working for this one. December runs are often slush bowls if it rains at all the week before.

Bring it desktop offroader.;) Let's see what those retreads can do. J/K, gotta keep it nice so Proinv doesn't edit our posts.

Brock will be coming up I95 from Char. friday and I will probably be coming into URE Saturday morning. Unless I can convince the :princess: that I need to camp out the night before. Hoping it is good weather so I can bring my son.

Hope you can make it. Bring Mystique, it'll make the drive and wheel nicely.

Jeremy

I will hand it to you Belmont you have a good memory. My LC with retreads is doing well. I have loaded the old cruiser down with garbage and and construction stuff and it handles on road and off road well. 2k in miles on the tires and they look really good and handle well. I was driving my Tundra getting some offroad driving in last week so hopefully I can hang.

I would probably bring Babe/ Mystic. I will get with Brock I figure camping would be pretty cheap. Is one person bringing a camp stove, or a carcol type grill.

Also are the trails set up to if I want to do some less agressive trails. I am not intrested in proving my metal at the expense of something breaking or getting banged up

If you register with ONSC and there is still room camping is free...as their club pays for the group campsite. I have a stove as do others...so getting some time with a stove or sharing for a group meal is no problem.

Trails go from mild to wild....with many bypasses...so you will be fine if you bring the FJ60...I did everything except Kodak Rock and Daniel with her last time and never spun a tire. :D
