I've used search and have not found the answer. Do the 1998 LX470 rear windows have UV protection? I know they are tinted that unique bronze-base tint. I ask because I've found a tint place here in Austin that has a little bit of the bronze tint and it IS UV 99% protection. If the backs are UV protected, then I'll do just the front 2 to match. This place also does the clear UV film on the windscreen. Seriously considering that as well. I have been unable to find if the windscreen is UV protected already.

Good question,

An educated guess would lead me to think if the factory windshield is still there no,

Just due to age I'd think, in a newer windshield possibly.

Some windshields have a green or brown tint too depending on th make and models.

I know in some states (NC) it's illegal to have any kind of tint applied to the inside of the windshield no matter what the percentage is.

Check to be sure, :)

I don't believe it's the factory windscreen. I can't find a Lexus, let alone Toyota, logo anywhere on the glass. I can't imagine a windscreen could last 20 years here in the South (land of chip-seal roads). Anyway, the bigger question is the rest of the glass on the truck. I know that the 03 models switched to the "green" tint that had UV protection included (per archived press releases). But, I can't find anywhere that indicates if the 98-02 "bronze" tinted vehicles had UV protection in the glass. I only ask because my previous Subaru Outback ('12) had zero UV protection in the "privacy" glass. My current '16 Outback 3.6r blocks only 5% UV in stock form. I tinted both cars with high quality ceramic tints to block almost all UV. The Lexus, despite it's age, has numerous features that surprise me were available in 98....auto-dimming side mirrors for one.

I found a tint place here that can match the tint and just want to determine if I need to do the whole truck ($450) or just the front driver's side/passenger side windows ($100). I'm going to do the windscreen with the clear UV film.

My '98 LX has UV protected windows on the 1st and 2nd row. I'm not sure about the 3rd row in '98. Later years did have it. Rear glass and windshield are not.

Thanks for the info. Is there any type of "label" on the window that would indicate UV protection? I assume there is.

Sorry to hijack your thread. But I'd like to see the tint and how well it matches the second row when you get it done.
I have an 03 lx and it has the brown factory tint and been looking for a good match, especially with the higher reflectiveness of the factory tint.

My 1st row windows are labeled "UV" but not the 2nd row.

My 1st row windows are labeled "UV" but not the 2nd row. I'll have to check the difference between the two the next time I'm sitting in direct sunlight.

Interesting. If the backs aren't UV filtered, then I'll likely just do a clear UV film for them and do the matching tint on the front 2 + the 80% UV film on the windscreen.

Also interested to see how well they match your existing bronze tint. If it matches well, could you ask if they will sell you extra tint? The LC 100 also used bronze tint in the early years, but sources of tint that match have dried up. I would be willing to pay for the tint and your trouble to ship, if it's a good match to factory. Would need enough for both front row side windows.

Do you happen to know if the stock front windows' UV protection is supposed to be a permanent UV protection or a 10-year protection like normal tinted glass film?
Thanks!

I don't know that but I believe the UV protection still works. Trying pointing your 100 at a 45 degree angle towards the sun at sunset (or sunrise) and see how the front window compares to the windshield.

Do you or someone you know have eye glasses that get darker when exposed to the sun? This would be a great test to understand level of UV making it through the glass.
Background: I put 3M film on my windshield and side windows to cut back on amount of sun in the cabin. My rear glass was already tinted from the previous owner. I tinted the front windows and put "clear" on the windshield since my eye glasses would not get darker while wearing them inside the vehicle.

TLDR: There was not enough UV making it through OEM glass to me in the cabin to cause my prescription lenses to get darker, so I needed tinted windows to avoid the need for prescription sunglasses.
