Being the genius that I am, I failed to remember/take a picture of the wheel bearings prior to them falling out during knuckle tear down. Which way do they(inner and outer) go........smaller diameter facing out or in as your looking at the wheel?

Edit: Like I said i'm a genius! I just realized the new bearings came with new races.......who would of thougt! My current races look good; do I have to replace them? How does replacing them or not factor into the preload adjustment and shim issue of the knuckle? If I stick with the old races I should be able to reuse the original shims right?

Thanks,

Mike

Thanks,

They taper towards each other.

Yes, changing the bearing and the race will alter the shim amount (at least more likely than not) that is why the shims are sold with the kit..

Now, I think there is some confustion to what you are talking about.

There are not any shims on the Wheel bearings. There are only shims on the Knuckle (trunion, kingpin, or whatever you want to call them) bearings (they sit above and below the birf and allow the outer to piviot.

Never use old races on new bearings. unless you rip into it every 10 miles like I end up doing..

Thanks to all of you for your speedy responses. I managed to get the bearings and races installed properly.....i hope.

More questions to follow, I'm sure.

Thanks again.
