Heading there this Saturday. Taking the 4-runner but I might tow the FJ40 there on a trailer with my truck if my neighbor ends up wanting to come. A buddy of mine with a TJ is going to be there as well, and trying to talk a new neighbor of mine on bringing his new JK Rubicon that doesn't have a spec of mud or a scratch on it.

Not sure if anyone wants to come along but it would be awesome if some people showed up. I've never been on the trails before. I think it is going to be a really early in and semi late out trip. No Camping but it may happen...not quite sure yet.

My wife will be comming along as well. I'm sure she would love to meet a few of you before the big trip and we could use some more YOTA representation.

I would go if it wasnt so close to North meets South, since I started back to school I have been trying to budget in one URE trip a month. I got July and August in but the drive to the western part of the state this month is actually going to eat up about 2 months of wheeling budget, but well worth it.

I hear ya. Oil prices have crashed but gas prices have stayed EXACTLY the same. Last time oil was at this stock price gas was 2.95. What gives? The "it takes time for that oil to reach our pumps is a bunch of crock" We all know the day oil goes up in the stock market the very next day it goes up proportionally at the pump. Yet the day it goes down it takes months (if ever) to come back down. I'm thinking of filling my diesel truck up and pulling the 4-runner there as my 7K lb F-250 with a car on a trailer on the back gets the same if not better mileage than that crappy 4-runner. Not to mention I can run the Veg (when I can find some these days). It is just a pain to load.

Does anyone have any recomendations on a route. From reading I think I will be able to manage every trail out there, as long as there is a way around some of the hard parts.

I am using this map provided by the forrest service.
Uwharrie National Forest Off

I'm not sure if they have 1 way trails out there. Any recommendations welcome. We plan to be on the trails from 10-4. So that gives us more than enough time to cover most of the trail system I beleive. We will probably leave out Daniel depending how the day goes.

The Eldorado Outpost has a nice map, I believe the old north state rovers also have a good one on their website as well.

Trails are two way so keep your eyes open and note wide spots as you progress.
Two ledges on Daniel are the only place without bypasses. You won't do those ledges without scraping your belly unless you have pretty good clearance.
But there are some other places you'll want spotting if you're stock.

I will definetely stop by and get a better map then. Good to know they are two way. Any reccomendations to take some of them one way or the other to make it a bit more chalenging or fun?

We are going to try to make some big circles and or zig zag so we can cover all the trails but daniel without doing to much of the same trail twice.

Also is 6 hours realistic in getting thru the whole trail system....minus daniel?

Since you've never been, I'll recommend a route that builds in difficulty. Once you get on the first dirt road, follow that till the second left (after the paved section). Follow that road through the parking lot to the end. This puts you on Falls Dam. Take Falls Dam a good ways, past the big mud hole and new campground. Then the trail starts to look more like a road, this is when you'll want to take the first right up a small bank into the woods. Real trail, it'll make more sense when you see it. This is Dutch John. Stay to the right at any forks, have fun with the rocks on this. At the end of Dutch John is the deep cut hill climb....cruisers make this look easy. Then, if you're ready for some hard stuff, take a right off Dutch John and a quick left up Rocky Mtn Loop. This brings you quickly to a fun ledge/shelf and then to Kodak Rock. Pick your line up Kodak (many lines there from eyes closed to reverse digesting your seat). Once you've made it through Kodak you can continue straight on Rocky Mtn Loop and then mosey over to Daniel or you can take a left onto Saw Mill. From Saw Mill you'll take a right onto Slab Pile and then soon another right onto Wolfs Den...and then you're out. By this time it's either dark out, or you're ready for Daniel. You want to go UP Daniel, DOWN is real sketchy. That means you need to go back to the first road after the bridge near the campground/parking lot (not the loading parking lot). From Daniel, 3 lefts will get you to Dickey Bell...which has some challenging spots but is fairly easy yet long enough to wear you out if you get in a hurry.

Well put logan.

Like mentioned id go up daniel, and clockwise around Rocky Mtn loop. Grab a map when you pick up your day pass at the outpost. Enjoy. Doubt i can swing it but you guys gonna meet up at any one location and time? 10 at the outpost? be safe and dont break the jeeps :D
