A few of my friends and I are going camping this weekend at URE. I am looking for suggestions on where to camp other than the "camp grounds". We won't need something like the group camp and we are looking for something primitive.

Are there any camp sites on the OHV trails? I have never noticed if there were or not when I was out there before.

If any of you want to meet us out there for a trail ride you are more than welcome too. We could use a few pointers. I have been out there a few times but have a lot to learn.

You will find plenty of spots, but you might want to check on the fire ban as to whether or not you can have a campfire. Arrowhead is nice, but I think Zuwharrie is next weekend, and if so, it will be ballz to the wall there. Dust will be an issue camping near teh trails if no rain between now and then, but I think they are calling for some *fingers crossed*

Saw a good spot on Dickey Bell a few weekends ago and made a mental note. Going in from the Falls Dam end, it is past the 2nd road crossing, on the left before the big hill climb. Big, flat, and near water (when the creek isn't made up of sections of cracked mud and random puddles like now)...

Thanks for the responses guys. That's exactly what I was looking for. I checked the URE website and did not see anything about no camp fires, but I will verify before we get out there.

Two quick questions: Dutch John appears to follow the lake shore. Are there any good camp sites there? If so, could a stock 80 series with 33's and no sliders make it around that trail without any damage? I don't offroad very often and care more about not having body damage than showing of battle scars.

Dutch John doesn't follow the lake shore. Your best better for "waterside" camping would be Badin Lake Campground or scouting a more primitive spot on the Uwharrie River off 555 (the road that has the trail head and parking for Daniel).

That being said, you should be able to do most of Uwharrie with a stock truck and 33's. Been done plenty of times. There are a few trails with a spot or two that will cause pucker factor but Dutch John isn't one. The steep hill climb up and to the right is the best part of that trail IMO.

Thanks for all of the help guys.
If I get some good pics I will post them up next week.
