On our way to the Usal Road this last weekend I experienced a wierd noise coming from one side up front I thought.
On the steep downhill to Cape Town using a fair amount of brake, I heard a metal rotating noise, not grinding so much, as I turned the wheel a fair amount with out braking.
We stopped and could smell a bit of brakes, not unexpected, but could see nothing apparent.
On the flats with much cooler brakes I heard nothing as I turned.
The next day after we left Usal Beach camp, again on a good down hill with a fair amount of braking, I heard the noise but from both sides as I turned either direction without braking.
Monday I tried to duplicate the noise by doing some hair pin turns but didn't hear anything. I then took a front and rear wheel off and looked for something obvious but found nothing. I even took my dead blow hammer and bannged on things. I also did not find any clues from rubbing or the likes anywhere.
Help me Mr. Wizzards,

Have u done front wheel bearings lately? The brakes could heat them up and then putting a heavy lateral load on them may have pushed the grease out. Also if they are loose they could be wobbling enough to drag your brake pads heavily when cornering. Either way, my money is on wheel bearings.

I did the wheel bearing repack just before McGrew but the bearing were not perfect by any means.
I'll have to 'aquire' the parts then go for it.

p.s. EOL??

Sorry, techie term. EOL = End of Life

Front brakes in the :princess: truck would make a similar noise, the pad on the rotors had worn through and the light dragging of the brake pads against the rotors would make a similar noise to what you describe. Worse when turning, not really noticeable unless there was a barrier next to you and the window was down (EG: fast lane on freeway).
