I just replaced my front brakes after 40k miles. I'm ok with the mileage given its city driving and some towing. What I don't understand is uneven wear. This time and the last time I changed pads, the passenger inner pad was worn to nothing and the driver side had quite a bit of life left. It stops straight and true with no pull. This has now happened on 2 sets of pads. Anyone seen this?

Picture is looking forward - you can see right inner is gone.

As we have fixed calipers (i.e. caliper doesn't slide on a pin), this is likely an issue with the specific pistons within the side of the caliper that the pad is showing irregular wear on. That or something is causing the pad not to retract away from the disk. Either the pad or fit kit is binding. Or perhaps the return springs are not on correctly.

It's just as likely the pistons are not retracting as they should on that pad. Usually it's an issue with the seal on the piston. You can rebuild them. Or just buy a rebuilt or new caliper for that side.

My drivers side outer did the same exact thing. Hopefully the wear is better with this next set, else I'll be rebuilding the caliper.... same result at 40k.

My ‘08 LC has sliding pins. At least there is only 1 piston per wheel. I just did the rears and one caliper as seized but the pad wear was even. I’m not a brake guy but if the pins were “sticking” could that cause the excessive wear on the inside or would it be a caliper issue?
I just noticed that it was a front caliper and I know nothing about the fronts. Oh never mind.

Thanks all for the comments. I think I'll watch the wear and rebuild or replace that caliper next time. Maybe a seal was damaged at one point and one or two pistons are sticking and not retracting. The other side seems to be fine. Its just odd to me that its not pulling since clearly one side is doing more stopping!

I'd second the guess of a stuck piston(s) on the caliper.
