I know someone building a bunker next to his existing home.

Not to hijack but FWIW I would tell your neighbor to call an engineer before he enters that structure. Should be a heck of a lot more rebar in that roof slab....and the length of those splices are waaaay short.

Pretty cool idea tho.

But you also have to love how all the rebar splices are in the exact same area.

CELICA XX, did you ever ask how much that bunker cost him? I'd be curious....

I thought he told me $45,000 ... I could be wrong.

Hey Celica,
Thanks for the nice pics. What are the dimensions?
how deep is it? and how thick are the walls and roof? did he go with cinder block walls or reinforced concrete?
thats exactly the kind of feedback i was searching for.

These pics were taken many years ago.

Unfortunately, I don't live there anymore and have no specs.

I totally agree...

I would want to be able to park a car on it.

I was surfing the web today for underground designs and found this website.

Wow... good web page.... I really like some of that stuff....

Definitely extreme, but that would be awesome if you wanted a bunker under your house. In the event of a catastrophe you'll want a vehicle if you survive. Plus, they're big enough to use for a garage... It looks cool. I may have to look at this later in life....

the rebar and discussion reminds me as a kid i worked as a concrete labourer on a dam project --- the guys that set and tied of the rebar we called "riggers" or "ironworkers" ... I see now they are called "rodbusters" ... is this new? was I using the wrong term then? never heard "rodbuster" before....is it just the in the "States"?

Shipping containers/Connexs are not structurally strong enough for direct burial. They are designed for loads only on the corner supports. You can internally or externally frame them for support and then bury. Definitely do some research before burying one of these.
Good luck!

When folks in this neck of the woods bury busses and cargo/connex containers the choppers fly around at night with infared. lol

Seriously would make a cool mancave though. Wish I had property
