Valley that is....

there's talk that the Marines need more land for bombing practice, so they want Johnson Valley.

Youk now the place, where we get harshed for hurting turtle habitats and the like? yeah. I guess blowing holes in the ground the size of a WalMart is more conducive to the region.

Whatever....

call your congressman, ask to be heard.
Ask him where the one for one acreage is going to come from in the land swap.

:bang:
(I poached the pic from that other board....Arr! Arrrgh! )

That sucks. They want Means? uggh.. there's already craters out there!!!! Great... all the rock buggies won't have any place to go now.. lol

Who ever created that image needs a spellchecker lol

That is going to be really lame if they take that much of Johnson Valley. Looks like there is going to be a fight, I hope we as a community can come together to beat this.

Had to add. I support the troops wholeheartedly, but damn can't they take another valley to train in? I really hope we don't lose it but if it means they are better trained and it may save some of thier lives then so be it. :frown: It is a small price to pay for what they do for us.

Im trying to figure out why all of sudden they need a bombing range there? They've had the land all squared away longer than anyone. Are the expanding their bombing practice like mad or what? Just fly down to the salton sea. Only takes 20 mins lol There's a bombing range just east of the lake.

Not a bombing range, Most of 29 Palms is a ground and mobile combat training range with infantry and tanks. They are currently building urban combat cities for urban combat training. One of these cities currently under construction is over a mile square with 5-7 story buildings. The intent is train harder than the enemy overseas fights. Given the current land they have and the land they can get to the East going towards Amboy and across Amboy Rd they dont need to go to the West. What the Marines want is open land that they can get in Johnson Valley for open country training, what they need to do is combine some of the tank vehicle training with the Army at Ft Irwin........:meh:

We should appoint you as our liason to the Marines so you can convince them to take different land. :flipoff2:

Yeah no s***, I end up hauling about five of their drunk recruits a week back to base after the locals have their way with them at the local bars..................most of those poor kids dont know how to bar fight the locals.
Yeah I think the Marines are really reaching big in order to get a smaller area, and they have underestimated the local reaction. But I do forsee more of the active fighting units moving from Pendleton to 29 Palms in the next few years.

maybe it's cuz there are too many eyes and ears close by?

this is from Uncle Sam's press release

WASHINGTON —
The Marine Corps submitted a land withdrawal application to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for approximately 422,000 acres contiguous to Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, Calif.

The application is part of an ongoing study by the Marine Corps for possible base expansion, along with the establishment of corresponding special-use airspace, necessary to train a Marine Expeditionary Brigade at the Combat Center.

The Marine Corps will be preparing an Environmental Impact Statement that will analyze the reasonable alternatives for meeting the MEB-training requirement. The Department of the Navy intends to publish a Notice of Intent to undertake the EIS in early November and conduct public scoping meetings in early December.

During the EIS analysis period, the Marine Corps will continue to work with recreational and business stakeholders to include energy companies, the airline industry and off-road vehicle enthusiasts. The recreational use of this land remains the same as prior to the withdrawal application.

Together with the BLM and the Federal Aviation Administration, we will study the best path forward for the Marine Corps to meet its training requirements, while analyzing and weighing the impact of the various alternatives on natural and socio-economic resources.
