Well, saw this on during Mecum Auto Auctions a while back...price went up $10 to the new sale price listed of $59.95 plus shipping with $9 rebate.

Up to 75 gauges are displayable dependent on your particular vehicle...works with OBII vehicles only but there is also an additional EXCEPTION LIST on website of other vehicles it also will not work and mostly Taco's from what I saw from Toyota stable.

Read some other forums where they all were happy with it especially for price...and a long thread on 80 Series forum as well with positive comments. So going to give it a try for my Hundy....even though I almost bought a ScanGauge from Autozone last weekend. LOL

Plus on top left of website you can pic the terrain in windshield...put mine on DIRT...:D :D

They even have a tool to help you find your OBD port in vehicle with graphics

I just got one for my tacoma. I like it so far. It brought up 53 different guages for me.

John and Brock, was it hard to calibrate it for your larger tires?

Looks like a neat piece, especially for CEL codes and resetting them after we fix our own cars.:D

Jeremy

Mine will be here Saturday I think...so not done it yet but everything I read you put in vehicle info...size of tires and it computes based on your gearing automatically. Most said it was right there with GPS when compared....

I also like that it will pick up fuel tank levels on most vehicles but if not you put how many gallons your tank holds and then when you fill up clear it...then when you fill next you enter how much you added so it can figure out fuel rate.

I will give initial impressions next week if you cant find info in the MUD thread I posted from 80s section.

Ordered one today. I didn't know you could calibrate it for fuel level, DTE, and inst. MPG. It will be nice keeping an eye on these things while towing as I am always guessing how much fuel it will take to get where I am going while towing.

Jeremy

did make sure your taco was not on the EXCEPTION LIST on website...meaning it might not work?

So far I like it. I need to do a better job of calibration using known distances like highway mile markers or get a better accuracy reading on GPS to do the same.

Otherwise it is good...:D

Jeremy

you clear the TRIPS and then line up front tire with start point and drive 1 mile, 2 mile, 3 mile, or whatever known distance you desire. Then stop with front tire aligned again at finish. Calibrate Distance and it shows what distance it THINKS YOU DROVE since clearing trip....you just use buttons to make the device equal 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, etc respectively. Then after you fill up...you reset it so it reads FULL TANK according to your tank size already determined....and drive. When you fill up again you CALIBRATE MPG/FUEL by telling it how many gallons you needed to get to same level as before. Recommend same pump, same hose, same number of clicks, etc. Not perfect but close for those that dont have a built in digital fuel level reader already. Then you are set.

I have pictures of the gauges I have selected in my build thread......

Yeah, I checked. I've got the same truck as John. I didn't see any Tacomas after 2005 listed.

I know it won't be exact, but I can't count how many times I have been towing the boat and trying to figure out if I can make it back to Columbia without filling up. Most of the time I guess wrong and have to stop. If the level is accurate to within 1 gallon, it's good. Also trying to get the best MPG on the hwy is nice. Things like dropping the speed 5 mph gains 1.5 MPG, etc.:)

Jeremy

my SGII uses the speed setting to calibrate. Run it alongside your GPS and adjust MPH %age up or down to match what your GPS MPH says. None of that measuring out exact miles on the pavement. I know that with 33" Wrangler tires I set the speed calibration to +3% and +6% with my 35" KM2s. It's accurate to within half a gallon of gas with average 80%city/20%hwy driving. The part about using the same gas station and same pump is very true with me too. My fuel economy goes up/dn 3% typically when I use the same gas station. However it can vary up to 8-10% when I go to a different gas station no matter what octane I'm running. Some weeks I nail it right on 0% adjustment on fillup.

[edit: oh, and Brock, I can get mine to drop to 0.7mpg from a standing start :steer:]

I am sure I can beat that dismal 0.7 fully loaded with PWR button depressed and stomping the gas...hahahahahahahaha Though I dont have as much armor on this one as I did on FJC or you do on your FJC.....YET!!!!!!! :D :D

as far as calibration.....I dont mind doing the measured thing...for almost $100 lower price :p :D

You can always put the wife in passenger seat with calculator, GPS, or stopwatch and slide rule to do it like the bomber navs in WWII....give her something to do other than drink all the apple pie! :D :D :D

Brock, have you calibrated yours yet? Just wondering what the best way to do it is. I thought about jsut pulling off the interstate and driving along the side for a mile.

Also, my truck didn't pick up a fuel sender. According to the manual it's not a big deal because you can quickly reset the tank when you fill up. Is that really the only advantage to the fuel sensor is it automatically readjusts your fuel level at fill-up?

Jeremy

Yes I calibrated for distance but got to wait until I fill up again to calibrate the MPG.

I thought about the interstate thing but thought it would be no more accurate and maybe less so than using a GPS...

Clear ALL TRIP first...so it will track driven distance based on oem configuration with stock tires it thinks you have on truck.

Then I got in wide open and let GPS sync up and get the WAAS going as well....then drove to road by house that is slightly over 1 mile long and drove it at 15 miles an hour until it got to 1.0.

At this point I did the Calibrate Distance and it showed the distance tracked and I used UP and DOWN buttons to make it say 1.0 miles just like GPS. I could have driven 5 miles or 50 miles and done same thing. If I did on interstate this is what I would do...start on side of road....drive 5-10 miles...then pull over at another mile marker and do the calibration rather than driving down shoulder for a mile.

Now that is done I will be able to calibrate for MPG and fuel consumption....that will be done Friday before I take my motorcycle to charlotte in trailer.

Yes the only advantage of fuel sensor it tells you level in your tank automatically...so you would not have to calibrate that as well.

Holding top button resets fuel to whatever gallon number you entered (25 gallons for LX)....so after I cleared TRIP meter then next time I fill up I het FILL UP again...then calibrate FUEL for MPG by entering how many gallons registered on pump during fillup. Recommend using same station, same pump, same number of cut offs as last time to keep it fairly accurate....hopefully around same ambient temp too.

I will let you know how it goes.

I was going to use GPS as well. Thanks for the info. I already filled up, and will do the distance calib. this week sometime. Then fill-up again sometime next week. Let me know how it goes. I don't expect mine to be off by much, if any, as I am running stock tires. But you never know how things are set up from the factory. I think the SR5 models have smaller tires, and I doubt they re-calib. the speedo jsut for the TRD package. But we'll see. My speedo seems to be off by 1.5 MPH on the GPS so it is probably off from the factory.

I have already noticed a difference in the way I drive. Also I changed the oil for the fist time this weekend using my usual full-synthetic and I think it is getting 1 mpg better just from that.:)

Jeremy

yep...there is also a OIL DISTANCE and SERVICE DISTANCE to track miles since last oil change or vehicle service.

I need to put another oil change in my Lexus of Amsoil...since has been a while now that you mention that.

I did the distance cal. yesterday using the mile markers. It was spot on from the factory. I guess the analog speedo is just not as accurate as the UG or a GPS.

I stuck with the preset gauges, except I swapped out the G/H trip, and another gauge that was worthless to me for the UG temp. and voltage.

I figured it would be nice to see the internal cab temp. and keep an eye on the voltage since my truck doesn't have one on the dash.

I also changed some of the alarm settings because I felt they were too high.

Coolant- 210 deg.
Intake- 185 deg.
Fuel- 2 gallons
DTE- 35 miles

Other than that I have been very pleased with this little device.
