Has anyone ever set their timing using their Ultragauge? I just got mine and it has a readout for timing advance. Figured this would be more accurate and cheaper than spending $40 for one time use.

The UG shows the computer's timing advance, like you mentioned. It does not measure base timing which is what you set by adjusting the distributor position.
You need a timing light, but the cheap little ones will do the trick. Don't forget to put the jumper in the diagnostics port, too. The sticker on the underside of the hood shows you which terminals to use.

If you don't have a timing light places like advanced auto and autozone will usually let you borrow/rent for free as long as you return it.
