View is from under the rig. Outlined in red is the _________________?

What am I looking at here? Pretty sure a graham cracker has more structural integrity than this thing. (and yes - changing my sig line re: rust:mad:)

If it's bolted to the frame I vote a splash shield of some sort. They must have all rusted off the 4-5 FJ60/62's I owned. Or "fell off" at some point during some mechanical work in the past.

Thanks Nick. It is bolted to the frame, right behind the rubber splash guard on the fender wall. I don't see an obvious use for it other than shielding the carb are from some of the heat from the downtube? Can't imagine its doing much of a job at it presently since it looks more like burnt toast than not.

Heck - I can't even come up with a name for the part to search mud. I have tried every iteration of fender + downtube + heat + shield and have bubkiss.
