how about a once and for all definitive tyre/tire thread which explains everything??

and put it in the stickies?

seriously we have metric and imperial info and it's all f'ing confusing

for example here in Oz, we get caught up in imperial inches when people say "35s" or "33s".

WTF is 35"? is that 315 ??

when previously we were talking 305x75x16 or whatever.

this has been so hard to ask about. Thankfully with this 295x70x18 Nitto i'm probably going to buy and the 35/34/33" i asked a tyre place in Sydney and they explained it., but ONLY to what i was asking about...was the 295x70x18 a 34"...

??? they said yes. So my spreadsheet calculations were right...but FFS....it's so confusing.

Please Woody, get a sticky up that explains all this stuff. Here we are in Oz metric, but we get partial metric and inches, and then the f**kers advertise us TVs in inches instead on cms? And the same is with some wheel/tyre combo.

i have no idea!!

The first number is the width in mm. The second number is the height of side wall in % of the width. Divide the width in mm by 25.4 to convert to on inches.

For example 285/75/16
Width 285mm/25.4=11.2 inches

Height (75% of width)x2+rim size
(11.2x.75)x2+16=32.8 inches

Thanks I know that part but you'll see various sizes shown
275x70x16
285x70x16
Etc

Then they'll say 35x16 or similar and that's what confuses me!

Imperial measurements are very easy.
Ex. 33 12.5 15 is 33" tall, 12.5" wide and 15" rim. No calculations necessary. First number is height, second width, third is rim size. All in inches.
