I don’t really see turbos on the 2UZ. Has anyone on here turbo’d the 4.7L?

I would be interested to see if anyone has tried one of these “budget” setups.

Compression ratio is a bit too high for a turbo from the factory which is why anyone who does forced induction supercharges. You'll either have to modify the engine to reduce its compression ratio or have a very small amount of boost. It's not really worth it.

$6300 USD. The pictures are from a USDM LX470 that a forum member successfully installed the kit on (and, loves it).

The posted turbo kit appears to be made out of cheap aluminized steel. It will not last long under the very high heat induced by a turbo. The turbo piping needs to be made out of 304SS, not basic exhaust tubing. You get what you pay for, and that's Chinese junk. Might be fun for a Youtuber wanting to make a "I bought the cheapest...." video, but not something I would every put on my GX.

Supercharger might be more available. $5600

IF you install it yourself AND can get a proper tune. Having a shop do it will likely run closer to double that cost when you factor in a dyno tune with the install labor. Labor ain't cheap these days.

I looked in to this around 2021.

URD style sucks, good luck getting in there to change a belt. Also you'll never fit that intercooler with a proper offroad bumper.

Top mount is the way to go. Elate is a good deal with the current exchange rate. People sell old use TRD setups for nearly that much.

I could see myself splurging on a Elate in the future. It would be soooo much fun to have a 400 hp GX.

i bought a gx specifically because it doesn't have a turbo. My moms 2022 2.0t volvo just s*** out at 65,000m. i I am convinced Turbo+EGR systems (add direct injection for a 3x explode multiplier) are anti-consumer devoices that car manufacturers lobbied for AND then blame Obama for. If you have enough bribe money turns out you can have your cake and eat it too.

Your mom's overworked 4-banger is hardly relevant to the conversation. We're talking about boosting a very reliable, intentionally underpowered v8 and comparing a dog**** turbo kit from Ebay vs a high quality supercharger from a reputable manufacturer.

@Ignignot
That's the problem right there-its 2022 2.0T. Volvo made some reliable boosted automobiles specifically the 740 and the 900s turbo models.....the pre 2000 were built with stonger rods.
In my opinion, the most reliable yota/lexus were the pre 2015 and the best years to me were the pre 1998 (FZJ80)😉

I was replying to post #1. But i think supercharging one of these is dumb too unless you need the extra power for a soecific reason (big wheels or you have tons of extra weight of gear and mods.) If its the case you need more power i highly doubt adding a failure point and decreasing reliability is worth it in the long run (breaking your supercharger somewhere you needed 38" tires to get to is probably going to suck)

That overworked 4 banger is now the only option in the 40, 60 and 80 series! And now the 2025 lexus gx has a v6 and a turbo. It is relevant cause these awesome lazy underworked v8s arent gonna exist anymore and people should be talking about it. We are hosed in 10 years.

The entire industry is chasing these boost grenades it makes me sick thinking about 10 years from now. The 2025 GX being a turbo 6 is a bad omen. The future of the brand is divorced from what made it great. I would compare it to when BMW stopped offering manual transmissions in the 3 series. Terrible sign for the future of Toyota quality
