arnott1t,

Great job on the Turbo install. Wondering how the 2H is holding up w/the new Turbo set-up, have you made any changes to the set-up and how many miles you have done on the motor since then.

Did you have any hood clearance issues or experience any paint damage to your hood due to high running temperature of the exhaust side of the turbo?

Just recently purchased my 1st Land Cruiser (Multiple Tacoma and T-100 past ownership) a JDM 1989 HJ61 TLC 2H powered w/250xxxkms on it and would like to get a little more power out of it. Without losing reliability and hopefully gaining some better MPG while i was at it. Looking into a turbo set-up with some history behind it.

Thanks

So the turbo set up has been on for about 30 000km or so. Still running great. Waste gate is clamped shut. Running peaks of 17psi. Still the same 3" exhaust and the intake mods mentioned before. Fuel economy was about the same as always and has recently dropped after re-gearing. I love the power of the cruise and am now at the point of blowing axles with the new gears and lockers. So far one long side rear and a birf up front. I may have turned the fuel up a bit more but not much.....
Otherwise I love the cruiser turbo'd. its not fast but its not slow. I have a few manifold leaks to take care of but thats it. On these 2 piece manifolds a leak can develop at the joint. Doesn't sound bad or anything but it can make it sooty under the hood.

No paint damage from the turbo. It does stay dry in that spot in the rain though....Also once I climbed up on top and got a decent burn on my leg from that spot as well.

Oil line has been good lately...touch wood.

Any help on the manifold to turbo adapter would be great! Were did you get the factory 3 bolt flange from? I am looking at diving in and turbocharging a HJ60 as well.

Also the joiner piece of pipe (from flange to flange) what kind of pipe did you use, I'm looking at some Scd40.

Thanks for this thread it was very informative.

Glad to hear your 30,000km's + on this set-up and its still doing well.
2 questions

Why did you go with the smaller A/R ratio Garrett? What RPM range is the turbo pulling from? Is it falling dead the closer to 2000 RPMS it gets ? I am wanting to go with a garrett in the 60-65 A/R ratio turbine side turbo. GT25 or a Gt2860rs (Disco potato). Any thoughts on those?

Have you done anything with the leaky 2pc manifold? That is my biggest concern with using the manifold and flipping it. I was thinking of flipping the manifold. Bolting it up temporarily......tacking it. Then removing and welding it. Do you know if us 2H owners can use 1HD-T manifold flipped?

Oh, one more thing. Is your truck 12v or 24v?

Thanks,
Phil

its a 24V truck. Nothing done to manifold. Pulls from 1000to3500 never falls dead. I was concerned at first on size but it turned out great.
