Hello,
I am new to this forum, I usually post in the 40 forum. My son's 2000 tundra has started to make a harsh metal snapping sound that seems to come from the back axle when he turns or gives it a little gas. Truck is basicallly undriveable, sounds bad! He does not have much cash as all his money goes into his 69 fj40. Anyone have advice? How difficult is it to pull out inner axles and gears and have a look or remove and replace? What kind of costs involved, anything to look out for? Also, how about a cheap place to buy needed replacement parts?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

that definatelly sounds like the grears are destroyed... umm gears shouldnt be more than a grand probably somewere around 500 bucks depending on what kind of gear and the ratio.... but if something is wrong with the carrier which is highly unlikely... that could cost about a grand just for the carrier

Didn't Toyota extend the warrenty on a few years for this reason?
