I'm considering a tube front bumper from Addicted Offroad for my '99 Tacoma. I like the style of it, the looks, the extra clearance, and the functionality of it offroad.

But my question is; How much do they affect gas mileage since iIt is taking away the aerodynamics of the front end? I routinely make 100-200 mile one way trips in my truck with a once a year 300+ mile trip. I've got a 4banger on 33s with a fiberglass camper so my mileage is already suffering some.

Does anybody have a real world comparison of mileage before and after a tube bumper install?

I really doubt the bumper is going to affect the MPG's much at all. I'ts not like you're running 200mph. Are you? :steer: I love mine, it was worth every penny.

Short answer: yes, you will take a fuel mileage hit. I'd say at most 2-3 MPG on the highway. City mileage probably won't change too badly, if at all.

No chance of a 2-3mpg hit. I run them on two of my 4runners. Both 3rd gens and have seen zero mileage drop. My 98' 5spd got 18.5mpg with stock gears, 3" lift and 285s before it and after it.

Crazy, but good to know. I wonder if an auto makes a difference?

I've also talked to some Xterra guys (similar platform IMO) who have taken up to a 3 mpg hit.

It shouldn't. As I have a A/T 99 highlander too. Lifting with tires will because of the stupid tall OD in it. But, adding a bumper like this will do nothing. I could maybe see a 1/2mpg drop if that.

FWIW, this is my old 4runner. SAS'd, linked, heavy axles, 5.29s, supercharger, 37s, etc. Dual tcases too. It got a legit 18.5mpg hwy on several trips between Fort Collins and Colorado Springs.

I saw exactly 1mpg drop in my 03 v8 4runner after adding my front bumper, and this comes straight from the computer telling me so.
