Greetings! Been shopping around for a 100 series that checks all my boxes and think I found that particular unit in South Tahoe. Was wondering if anyone can point me the direction of a trusted mechanic, or the local 100 guru who would not mind being compensated for their time giving this rig a once over before sorting shipping or travel arrangements are made from Chicago!

Thanks!

South tahoe is the low-rent district of tahoe. There are some good deals but you have to be mindful of maintenance since there are few good shops there and wear and tear from living on a mountain.

Thanks for the reply. Rig appears clean via photos, typical 100 issues ( exhaust manifold, t belt service coming up) but is claimed to be from LA and the underside is clean. Any ideas as to a reputable service center i could pay for a PPI? Or can i purchase some of your time to tell me to run away?

Just a thought look in socal, and there were alot of updates made in 2003 on the 100 series, look at the slee page for the differences in the 100 series,

Slee Off-Road 100 Series Newbie Guide

I have always had a problem buying a truck long distance, you are placing alot of trust in a shop/previous owner on the quality of the truck...

That said I know the service manager at Carson City Toyota (close to south lake) and he has been there 15+ years and is a sharp guy. If you can get the owner to take it there and get it inspected it would add some piece of mind... there are 2 or 3 guys in the shop that know cruisers,

good luck

I would be no help to you. I love those rigs and my rose colored glasses would probably lead me astray. Best of luck.

If you are still thinking about this thing. It looks pretty clean in the pictures. The factory battery cables are there, there is dust and dirt on things meaning it wasn’t detailed for pictures. There isn’t any strange oil on the bottom or greasy hand prints like they found something bad and decided to patch it up and sell it. It has the factory floor mats and the are used but look decent. I’d say it’s got a 65-75% chance of having lived a decent life if they kept it that clean and they have receipts for some of the work.
