I just had to post this.... Today, after some 6 months I actually got to drive the troopy around a bit! I live on some nice dirt roads so I was able to bang it around there without much trouble. I still have tons, tons to do ,but It was nice to be able to see it moving under its own power, and quite well I must add. :) Top comes off this weekend to replace the rain gutter. Its basically non-existent. I am sure that will add a bunch of other things to "the list" of what needs to be done, but I am happy with the diesel engine and its condition after the work I have done to it. Guess I just had to share with a bunch of people who would understand! Thanks!

John

This thread is useless without pictures!!!!

Great to see the progress!! Will it be ready forn the Spring meeting??

I'm not sure what you all want for pics....close ups of toast rain gutters? But I will take a few to post maybe when I get the roof off. John, I really don't know yet, the list is still long, but slowly and as the budget allows its is starting to shrink....budgets....enough said....

Thought maybe I'd update this a little. Been awhile and I'll try out posting a few pictures. Top is off and been daily driving it the past few days as the weather has been great! Engine is running good and I just Wilson Switched the glow plugs and it made a huge difference in starting. Got an edic controller off ebay.au and will be putting that in this week. I've done a bunch of other work but the list is still long. At least the weather is cooperating enough to get some of the list moving!!

Looks a little different from when it arrived to my driveway.

With the top off and no ambie doors I wanted to do something and got this from CCOT. Fit great and looks good. Got a little dusty on the dirt road.

The roll bar/cage is the next major thing!!!!

Its always nice to ride around the dirt roads after fixing something.
So satisfying.

Will you post some more pictures of that tailgate? I've been thinking of making one like that and would like to see how they did it.

That's gotta feel good. Like the seats too

Lookin' good Jack . Must be fun having the roof off that beast. What have you done to the engine? Do you have the H or 2H?

I'm in the middle of a cage project for mine using oem bars, L-channel, and additional support tubes. What are your plans for a cage?

He has the H, which was built 1972? to 7/80. Jack and I have been sharing parts sources in AU, since we have the same engine.

Neat to see a troopie with the top off. I am not even sure I can take the top off mine.

Sky- I'll post some pics in a day or so of it for you. You get your ride yet?

John- Same seats that came with it, I'm waiting till I get the roof is all set before I replace them. For now, they actually work pretty good. They were just loose and had some really bad covers on them.

82cruiser- The engine stuff was more routine stuff any 30 year old truck would have: couple freeze plugs, glow plugs, thermostat(housing was broken), the cooling fan, John had the starter rebuilt and got me a rebuilt alternator, hoses(both oil and cooling), the list goes on, but like I said, just basic stuff. The cage, I'm not 100% sure yet. I'm kind of leaning toward putting in a bench seat in the back that faces forward.(kids) If I do that then I would like to do a cage that is a bit longer, like an extra hoop over the bench and the L bars to the back like the stock bars have. For now I might just do an OEM set up that I can later move back over the bench.

HJ45CC- yes the top, I bet it will come off!!!! Its so nice without it....got the sunburn to prove it! I am pretty sure mine had not been off before, at least the sides had not(fiberglass had been off before). I know the original color was a gray, not the tan. Under the sides had a nice gray paint, I could see this returning to that color maybe?!? And Yes it has been very helpful to share AU info for parts!!! Thanks!

Almost have it, Im planning to drive it back late next week.

Maybe I could stop by and check out your rig when I head up to VT next time.

Just checking, but is this a 60 wheel? I am looking for one more if anyone has one kicking around.

I agree!!! OEM soft top bows....hmmm

Talk to Randy (82cruiser) since he's making bows now and bought a soft-top from Ehsan in Pakistan.

I just gave away a set of 60 steelies. One week too late!

I got one for ya if ya ever make it to CT. Actually, PM Landtank, I think he is in Hartford and could possibly bring it up to ya.
