troopy wiper washer not working (motor ok)

funny situation where my wiper washer not working (has not since i bought car 6 months ago) - i finally decided to have a look and to my surprise the washer motor is fine (1997 1hz troopy)
so i put a test light in the wires/plug that go into the washer motor - when i pull the washer stalk the light does not light up - ie no power at the wire -but interestingly after doing this the wipers move back and forther across the screen -which i know they shoudl but they do not do this when connected to the washer motor!! - how @#$% ing odd is that!

Any body got any idea where to start here?? - have cleaned all connections but to no avail - the only thing i can think off is perhaps the stalk itself is faulty???

Hi Tim.

I am having similar problems with my 97 hzj75 ! Although mine is only an intermittent problem. When pulling back on the washer stalk , the washer motor only works when it wants too! I haven't had a chance to investigate the issue as yet but I'm all most certain it will be a problem with the contact for the stalk!

Looking forward to seeing responses from other mudders .

Hahaa yes that is very weird that your wipers are working but no washer pump ! Almost indicates to me that you don't have a stalk problem as you are still powering the wiper motor??!, you may have a broken wire close to the washer motor ? Maybe ....

They are a bit funny, they swich earth to the washer motor. the wire lightblue with a red tracer should have power with the key on and the other one swiches earth.
