Not the same route but it conjures memories of "who needs a road" with the new york, new york thing.
There is no way I would drive a rig with American Plates and with an American Passport on it into Iran though.

While there are other dangerous parts on his trip.
The route is sinuous. Cross Central America, then head down South America to Buenos Aires. From there, I'll ship the car to South Africa, then drive north through Africa to Europe. I'm a native of France, so I'll stop in Paris to get some paperwork done, then go east through Eastern Europe, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, and India. I'll ship the car to Thailand, drive to Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia and Indonesia, and put the car on a final sailing home to the U.S.

No government on it has as much of a hostile attitude towards Americans than the Iranian one. Think about how many American citizens have gone missing in the last few years over there. Or been abducted by the Iranian government on trumped up charges. If the car was registered in any other country and he could use his French passport i'd say he would be fine and another on the list would take the place of the worse but as it stands Iran still gets my vote.
Between my uncle and my Dad they have easily been to all the places on that list twice over and I would be willing to bet Iran would perk their interest the most with an American driving in there.

I also like how he said that the military drives like NY cabbies. I always told my guys to drive it like they stole it when we got into something hot.

After looking at his route you are right for being hated alot. If i was him i would find some local plates and put a local scarf on and drive like that. I would try to blend in as much as possible.

No crap, slow the go isn't the way if you are in a situation like that.

Laos and Cambodia don't sound super inviting either though... I've met a few nice Iranians in my day... but all were out of the country and this was mostly before we started umm... "playing" in their back yard. Before I did my research I advocated "turning the whole sandpile into a parking lot" in front of an (unbeknowst to me) Iranian immigrant... he didn't behead me, but was of course shocked/a bit offended. Whoops!! Like was mentioned already I'd be more concerned with the government than individuals I think over there.

Yeah it isn't the individuals that are bad, individuals can get you in any country but when a country's government is hostile towards you it is time to skip it.

I didn't see a budget for all the bribes he will need to pay in order to pass through some of those places.
Maybe he can score a local plate and speak only french? I agree about Australia, what better place to drive around in a LC? Friendly people, good wheeling, and their culture/religion doesn't prohibit beer...
