Hello All,

New guy here. I've really enjoyed this site over the last year since I found it.

I was hoping someone could answer a question for me.

I have a 2004 Tacoma TRD 4wd. As far as I know, it is stock (so far). The exhaust on this truck seems louder than non-TRD 6 cylinder Tacomas that I've ridden in. The truck only has 16,000 miles on it, so the muffler is not "worn out".

As a TRD, does it come from the factory with a throatier exhaust? If the TRD exhaust has been added by previous owner, how can I quickly identify it?

Thanks in advance.

No.

It would have a shiny chrome tip that says TRD, and borla muffler.

Thanks in advance.

Congrats on the new truck, and welcome. The TRD's came with progressive front coil springs, larger (by 2mm) stabilizer bar, tokico shocks (dbl cabs) bilstein shocks (ext cabs), fancy rear quarter panel sticker, and most importantly.. the rear e-locker. If it doesn't have a rear locker, then it's an imposter.

PS, there were a few that were ordered with the e-locker that were not TRDs.

If it has a Borla muffler, that would explain the "throatier" exhaust. If its a Borla, it should be stainless steel and have the Borla name stamped in the shell in big letters.

Thanks for the help, guys.

It appears to be a stock exhaust. Any ideas on where I might have a small leak? Any good way to pinpoint it?

Thanks.

A way to find a leak would be to get under there and look for a hole! :)
