Is anyone using a Trasharoo WITHOUT having a spare tire carrier/bumper? I'd like to use my Trasharoo but haven't quite figured out how to mount it without having a spare tire carrier.

If you have some suggestions, post up!

I had thought of that but I want to keep from having the window down, especially in the event the weather changes.

One idea I've had is to mount the top straps to the bottom portion of my roof rack and have the bottom straps mount to the bumper somewhere. It may look funky though and not sure how secure that'll be. Argh!

I think you might be limited with using it only when at camp and attaching it to your front bumper. I have seen Tacoma guys mount it to their tailgate, but that would render the tailgate useless as you can't swing it down with the Trasharoo attached.

How about putting it on a hitch mounted bike carrier or something similar fabricated for the purpose? Those swing out ones would be ideal to allow use of the tailgate as well.

I have 2 of the older ones that had the UV strap issues and subsequently broke....I just toss them up on the roof rack for now until I learn how to sew new straps.

You should talk to Dave about your broken straps. I sent him an email and had a new one at my door in a couple days no charge.
You can't beat that for customer service and standing behind his product. Customer service like that is hard to find these days.
Kudos to Dave!

You can maybe mount it under and over the tailgate. That's how I mounted mine on my old Tacoma.

The tailgate and hatch should still close.

The second one I have was a warranty replacement about 3 years ago. He did tell me that when the straps on that one went (because it was still old stock) he would replace it. I'd rather just fix the straps after this time but he doesn't have any replacement straps.

His customer service is pretty good, no questions about that.

I actually have an extra trunk-mounted bike rack that I could mount to the truck and mount the Trasharoo to that. Might be a worthwhile idea. I'll try and share a photo once it's on to get the "yay/nay" from y'all on how it looks, functions, etc.

If you have a roof rack, why not just throw it up top when moving and just hanging it from there when camping?

Forget looks.... find function.

Depending on the trail, I would be concerned with a bike rack hanging off the back. There are some large ledges that would reposition your bike rack up to your roof rack.

They are a cool idea but a general pita over all, spare tire on back or not/ They just don't like to strap on well with the design but at least with a rear spare you can get it done and have it be "acceptable" even at speed...bungee's help. Mines been on for a while but if I take it off I'll never bother putting it back on...wondering when someone will try to steal it.

No idea how it would work for a 100 w/o a rear tire and only foresee frustration messing with that idea. Well made item though.

I disagree with them being a PITA. I think it's one of the most useful pieces of gear I own. I have carried all kinds of stuff in mine. It takes about 2 minutes to strap on. I use a bungee through the straps in the back to ensure it sits in the best position on the tire. Some folks cross the straps on the back. However, when you buy a new one now, it comes with additional straps to make sure it sits secure.

I agree, one of the cheaper and more useful mods.

I'm not disputing it's usefulness and once sorted it does work well. I too have carried all kinds of stuff. But i still think it's a pita, even though I'm on my second one.

Super old post, but do any of you have pictures of how you mounted it?
