 How can I fix this problem, my transmission shift indicator light (inside the instrument panel and tranny) both don't work? is there fuse or could this be lights inside the instrument panel, it is wierd cuz they used to work sometimes, but know they seem not to work at all. What vould be the problem? any help please. any one else have this little problem, thanks in advance.

I have the same problem (transmission instrument panel lights) plus one other, my rear reverse lights don't work.

I suspect that it's the neutral safety switch.

Could you check to see if your reverse lights work? Maybe we can work this problem out together, for I haven't been able to locate an answer in the search help treads.

This is a known problem with the instrument light, it is also mentioned many times on diff cruiser boards. Funny how Toyota can make a vehicle that will get you to all corners of earth but screws up light bulbs and seatbelts retractors(Hilux and T100 will never retract) There seems to be a very fine line between a part that: will fail for sure, last the life of the vehicle, is over engineered and too expensive.

burnt out lights in the cluster are common, I recently replaced the D and Pwr lights but sounds like you guys lost all the lights? that sounds like more than burnt out bulbs. does the pwr light still work? it shares the same ground as the shift indicators. the 2nd start and and OD off are ground switched and wired seperatly,

power for the lights comes from the "10A GAUGE" fuse through the "A/T INDICATOR SW[PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SW]" to the bulbs and then out to a common ground in the cluster

My D and PWR lights are also burn't out. How long did it take to replace bulbs, was it tricky to get to them?

Perk, put your rig info in your signature, at least year and model

*Edit or does having the PWR light maen that you have the later highly refined transmission and therefore the later dash? did those changes happen at the same time?

I did it in conjunction with other dash activities that took all day, I would guess you could probably do the bulbs in 2 hours if you hustled ( I never do ) the cluster has to come out and then you have to remove a separate box in the cluster, you will need the bulbs from CDan, they are special doubt you will find them in a parts store,

Take a look at the FSM but here are a basic description for the later dash from beer soaked memory: take off the kick panel, then the column shroud (top and bottom) tilt the wheel all the way down, remove the middle dash piece that has the mirror controls, locker rotary switch on the left and goes over the wheel to the ignition cylinder on the right, then the black piece around the cluster that has the two vents, this black piece it captured by the dash pad on the far right side, dont try to force it before finding the catch or you will break the vent ( , superglue fixed it) then the cluster itself, about half way out you need to unhook the 4 (or was it 5?) electrical connectors on the back of the cluster, be very careful with the exposed printed circuit plastic sheet on the back of the cluster touch it as little as possible

At first it looks like it should come out to the left (basically out the door) but I could not get it out that way, after some rubix cube action I got it out to the right.

After you get the cluster out there is a box in the middle that has several tabs, it was stubborn at first but after I got all the tabs clear and gently pried in the right spot it came right out, on the now exposed side of the box are the bulb bases, give them a 1/4 turn and they come out.

when you go back in work the harnees in deeper over the duct running behind the cluster if you do not it will get cought and the cluster will not sit flush
