Since my lead mechanic is off in Utah playing "Brokeback Mountain" with Mike, I have been tackling my transfer on my own.

The used input gear had a very little bit of play, so instead of letting it tear up the output shaft, like my old one did, I had it welded to the spacer and PTO gear, today. I tried to cut off the old output shaft for the welder to use, but I learned that a metal sawzall blade won't even scratch the shaft, let alone cut into it. After getting the old A440 up on my trailer and hauled over to the shop, the guy did a great job and fixed my trailer jack stand for $40. (City Welding in Apex).

Anyway, I got it home and tried to put it on the output shaft under the truck. With the transmission in place, and the gear in one long piece, the body contour will not allow me to get the gear on the shaft.

So hear is my question: If I put a jack under the transmission and remove the cross member, can I lower the transmission the three inches that I need without blowing a motor mount or causing other issues? I sure hope it will, because I do not want to have to unhook that flywheel from the torque converter.

Brokeback, Lmao.

Yes you can. Remember that your exhaust will limit the amount that you motor can lower, so watch for that, but otherwise you should be good.

Good call on having the custom McNamara gear made, you won't regret that decision.

I fully expect to to see this truck's driving around when I'm back! If not, I'll have a spare couple of days to help button it up.

Call me if you need anything bro, cell reception is good out here.

Well, how'd it go? We should be back on Wednesday next week but I don't go back to work till the following Monday, so I will have some time to help if this isn't all buttoned up before we get back.

How goes it?

I haven't even messed with it. Work got crazy and then i had to come to the coast for a wedding and some boat therapy. I'm going to mess with it on mon and go from there. Can't wait to hear the stories.
