It's a 93.

With the tranny in 'drive' and when I'm stopped at a light there is a low, resonating noise coming from the transmission. It's sort of a hum and it goes away when I put the tranny in nuetral or park or as I drive off. Also, to go along with this, the tranny wants to 'pull' when stopped at a light.

I have little knowledge of auto trannies so forgive my weak description.

Could this be an issue where I have to adjust the kickdown cable?

Any thoughts?

Larry,
It sounds like the kickdown to me. Make small changes and drive it a day or so between changes.

Is Your Idle speed correct (650 rpm)? and is your engine in good general tune, since auto boxes are sensitive to poor engine performance and most transmission specialists almost always advise that a poorly tuned/maintained engined can incorrectly give the impression of a tranny fault.

what's the kickdown cable's function?

It could be normal or possibly an exhaust or motor vibration. My rig has a slight hum in drive while stopped due to an exhaust pipe mount that is broken.

In gear the tranny will pull to some extent due to the torque convertor. If your idle speed is too high, it will pull more.

It idles steady right around 650. The tranny has done this since I've owned it so I'm not sure it has anything to do with the engine. Mostly because in those 6 months I have had to replace the head gasket and rebuilt the head at the same time plus a handful of new components such as wires, plugs, cap, rotor, fuel and air filters. Basically the engine is pretty fresh for having 120k on it.

I'll tinker with the kickdown cable.
