Hi there,
Quick question about an HJ60 1986 model. Am having problems with the gear transmission where the 3rd gear always seems to get stuck, frequently. The way out of it to pump the clutch repeatedly. Why? Checked on the transmission fluid, no probs there. If so, it should have affected the whole gear system. Clutch seems to be ok as uphill driving power is just fine(Turbocharged - don't know if that makes the difference). Anyone out there with similar probs?

Thanx.

Hi there, Ethiop.
I had exactly the same problem with my 1986 HJ61 with 12H-T turbo engine. It's got nothing to do with the engine because thay share the same gearbox as the others. I am in the process of stripping down the gearbox/transfer case at the moment. I noticed that my transfer case had too much oil and that the gearbox didn't have enough and was wondering if that was the cause of the problem. It's interesting to hear that your didn't have the oil transfer problem, so I can't suggest that as the cause.
I'l probably be taking the gearbox top cover off very soon, to see if that was the cause. The trouble is that I can't get it to lock into 3rd gear now that it as been removed from the vehicle.

I suspect that it will probably be caused by wear in one of the shafts inside the gearbox. If that is the case then probably the quickest and cheapest fix for you would be to find a low milage replacement, and have it fitted., then sell your old one for reconditioning.

I removed my gearbox/transfer case at 420,000 km's, and it appeard to work ok (other than locking in 3rd gear). How many miles has your done?

Sorry that I can't give you much information at this stage. I wont be able to work on it after this week (for two weeks) so hopefully someone else may be able to give both of us some more insight into the cause.

Rodd
