Planning on a drain and fill of the automatic transmission for my 2017 Tacoma. I understand the basic procedure and also how to get the vehicle in trans temp mode with the OBD2 jumper (though I just did find a Youtube vid that showed you can do this w/o the jumper on a 2021). what I am looking for is what the FSM temperature actually is. I think I can get the trans temp with my OBD2 reader but I can't find the FSM value on the internet (at least from a site I trust). I have found numbers all over the place. I think the correct range is 115F - 130F. I just want confirmation. Does anyone have the FSM that could post a pic of the page with the value and the FSM procedure?

On my 200 LC, there was a step where you have to open the tranny thermostat by pushing in a pin and keep it open with a paper clip:

anything similar for the Tacoma?

Here is the temp reference for the 200:

Just looking for same FSM infor for 2017 (3rd gen) Tacoma.

Found this guy on TACOMA4G forum. He sells some cool "maintenance map/trackers" posters on his site. I have no affiliation and all I know about him is from his website and his videos which, IMO, seem pretty good.

Also, for the transmission temp, I was able to read the actual temps with my ODBFusion app, though I did have to buy my MY Toyota PIDs for $15. Worth it to me (as I already use the app) to not have to do the jumper thing and deal with the blinking light BS. Also curious that the second video does show thermostat on the tranny cooler/heater similar to the 200. Whether or not you have this may depend on your specific model.

Didn't see this in the FSM PDF but maybe its there. Need to look at it again.

I did this today. Drained the pan, dropped the pan, replaced the filter and put it all back together. Pretty easy. Got 5 qts of old fluid out. I purposely over filled it by putting in almost 6 qts of new fluid and warmed the granny to the magic temp and pulled the overflow plug and got 1qt back out. I’m a little surprised at that because I know I put about a quart more in and then got the court out. Makes me wonder why I didn’t just add the amount I got out back in and call it good. I guess the theoretical answer to that question is I drained out 5 quarts of 70° oil. I added almost 6 quarts of 70° oil then I drained out 1 quart of 110° oil. The specific volume of the 110° oil is higher than the 70° oil which means that same court if at 70° would be less than a quart. So maybe this all makes sense in the end.

The good news is that the fluid I drained out still seemed pretty good and wasn’t too dark or smelly and the pan was clean just some real fine sludge on the magnets. Everything seemed in really good shape.

On a sidenote, I found my missing filter wrench. When I change my oil on my Land Cruiser, I couldn’t find the wrench and bought a new one when I changed the oil on my Tacoma there she was sitting on the skid plate.
