Transmission breather / vent, plastic?

I am doing the breather extension for the diffs and both gearboxes, I wanted to replace the lines on both the transmission and transfer case as the stock hose does not look very sturdy

I traced the transmission line up to the top by feel and found the barb felt loose, like it was mounted in rubber or something, got a mirror out and it looks like plastic? Kind of hard to tell through the road grime, I figure if it is plastic I will likely break it trying to pull the stock line off


Is this barb plastic? Is it threaded in or press fit? What can I replace it with?

I found mine in the same manner, but didn't find it loose. Just swapped the hose. How loose is it?

tread lightly, you don't want this thing if it's loose to fall in, I guess...

ouch, I was hoping the looseness was normal, I can move it 15 degrees or so with light finger pressure

I'll try to get a better look at it tomorro (not easy)

maybe it's held in by a rusty nutsert?
