Transfercase woes part 3

So i pulled the rear output shaft front bearing retainer and in looking at it it just seems as though the race is the part that is preventing my assembly to seat correctly. Here is a picture of the rear output shaft front bearing retainer from the side. As you can seen the race isn't seated all the way in. Also, could the prevention of it seating correctly be because of the front output shaft?

Thoughts? Suggestions? Also, the two tabs on the retainer...where the heck should those be placed?

The race is seated correctly.

The retainer is what sits close to flush with the case.

Looking at the race retainer-one of the ears is broken off. I'll bet the ears were not settled in the space for them when you bolted it up, and as you torqued it down the ear broke off. Where did that piece go? You don't want that floating around in the t-case.

That was likely the problem all along. If the retainer was not seated fully in the front part of the case, then the output shaft would not be in the correct position in the case, which then could fracture the case when you torqued things down.

I think you are close to a solution now.


It also looks like you are re-using the bearing-why go to all this trouble and do that?

Looking at the lower photo the ear should be turned a hair more clockwise to be in position. But as noted the other ear is broken off. Should still work but may rotate in the case while being driven. I also agree you are closer to being good to go.
