transfercase question

The last few times I took my 60 offroad the transfer case would slip from 4 low to nuetral if I hit some bad ruts. I took it out today and everytime I hit a rut the transfer case would try to come out of 4 low and start to grind the gears. On flat ground it seemed to work fine. The frame is solid so the only thing I can figure is that the motor mounts need replaced or I have a transfer case problem. Anyone have this problem with there 60? Any help would be appreciated.

Motor mounts are a good start or maybe something is binding on the 4x linkage.

Do a search...I believe this exact problem has been disucsed, and the motor mount (driver's side I believe) was the most likely culprit).

First thing to check are the motor mounts and the transmission mounts. If these are fine, then it's in the transfer case. There are a few options for what this might be, so suggest a search, lots of us have transfer case issues. Prolly a rebuild would be a good thing for any high milage cruiser...

Ditto motor/trans mounts. But there's also the possibility of the detent springs being fatigued on the transfer. There're a couple of threads here on that subject - pretty easy fix.
