1987 FJ60, the puddle of gear oil caught my attention real fast, it was parked facing down hill. Inspection revealed that, what looks like, a hard plastic bushing had popped out slightly. It encircles the TC shift rod and presses into the TC housing. I managed to firmly press it back in, it didn't look damaged. The rubber boot looked fine and is held by this bushing.

Anyone else had trouble with this? Think it is likely to happen again?

Thanks,
Andy

I've not had that problem.

While sitting in driveway, engine off, shift xfer in-out of 4wd a few times. check it again. If it pops out- ya need a new one....

Thanks for the reply and, really, I'm glad that this problem is not wide-spread. I guess I'm just a special kind a guy.

After I seated the bushing, I had my son move the TC lever in and out several times so I could watch for failure, none observed. Then I drove it around some, shifting in and out, to see if the bushing moved any, no movement. I'll keep looking at it occassionally. I fear that heat and pressure and vibration may push it out again. Maybe I fixed it and will never have to deal with it again!

I'll bet I prompted a few of you to go out and take a look.
