Hello everyone, I’ve been doing some research on the transfer case output bearing but couldn’t find a ton of solid info given these things are sturdy and don’t usually have any issues other than seals leaking. I’m on the road a few thousand miles away from home and In a pinch not having all the proper tools to tear apart the transfer case, is there anyway to change the rear output shaft bearing ( bearing before the flange to the rear driveshaft) without taking apart the entire transfer case?

Note: ‘97 landcruiser

Because of how the bearings retained, yes a partial dismantle is required but by the looks of it not that difficult

Great video on it below

What's wrong exactly?

The rear casing comes off easily without dropping the entire TC. You definitely need some good snap ring pliers.....good flat surfaces for pressing in the new bearing....keep track of the shims because they set your preload. There's lots of info on here and Youtube vids showing how to do it without removing the TC.
