Need input as to the need to run a support for my t-case???

I am currently running in my 76 FJ 40 a 2F with stock motor mounts, an SM420 with a 3-speed bellhousing and the stock 4-speed bellhousing mounts, then a 4.5" AA adatpter to a stock 4-speed case (3 speed gears), aaaaand a AA rear t-case mount. I have always thought the extra AA support was not needed since I kept the bellhousing mount + it's caused problems due to frame flex. Running without would be the same as factory except for 4.5" more leverage.

I need to ditch the AA rear t-case support so I can cut the tabs off the frame (plus the extrra plate I used) to enable me to build a better skidplate. Using 1.5" square tubing that will be cut and welded to run under the gap between the case and drum, and then another under the from output shaft. This allows the front bar to line up with an alternate underside mount located on the AA t-case adapter.

Question: Does anyone else with this setup run without a rear crossmember? If not, should I design something that allows me to tap into the AA 4.5" adapter pad for extra support.

Sorry fot all the detail.

run a 3 mount design that allows frame flex. 2 engine mounts and t-case/tranny mount. Id run a mount on the bottom of the tranny and build around that. More than 3 mounts you will run into stresses from frame flex not allowing your drivetrain to move.

I was digging around at my work and found an excellent transmission mount to start with if you were fabricating your own cross member

(anchor mount p/n 2638)

I was also informed not to use the bottom two mounting holes in the AA adapter as it is too weak to use as a mounting point for the entire driveline

You can have as many engine tranny mounts as you want. As long as you use a mount like Bandy posted (flex at the mount) instead of the AA style (flex at the frame).

I guess I need to clarify my question: I want to know if it's safe to run just the motor mounts and bellhousing mounts as I'm taking off the rear AA cross member.

The new skidplate I'm making will enable me to add another (still a 3rd) mount using the AA 4.5" SM 420 adaptor (it'll be 1.5" 3/8" square tubing - to which I could use a mount like bandy posted) - but the main question is still how many others have their SM420, AA adaptor and T-case hanging out in thin air :D.

I would really run a support under the AA adapter if possible. That extra 4" does add a lot of leverage..
