Greetings from the middle of the desert,
So, I'm planning to make a 4 seats sand rail. It will be mid engine - engine will be in the back + facing the back of the car - rear wheels drive sand rail. I'm planning to use 5.3L Vortec 320hp engine pulled out from 2010 GMC Sierra. The problem that is facing me is the transmission. Transmission system with a differential will take a big space in the back of the sand rail + I will not be able to connect the differential to the wheels. So the only solution available was the transaxles. After few researches, I found out that Mendola and VW bus transaxles are used. However, they are very expensive + they are not available in my area. So, what I was thinking about is to use Porsche Carrera or 911 transaxle, which are available and relatively cheap.
The questions are:
1) Is the combination possible?
2) Will I need to modify the transaxle in order to make the sand rail move forward -as the engine will be facing the back of the sand rail- ?
3) Will the transaxle handle the the power of the engine?

Thanks :)

Use the motor and trans for a 2006 Monte Carlo. 5.3 LS4 and 4T65eHD.

It will put the engine transverse, but they bolt up and the wiring is simple.

Thanks for the info
but what about newer transaxles???? Like Ford 6F55. According to wikipedia, it can handle up to 365 hp and 350 lb ft torque??
Does the 5.3 L Vortec fit without troubles?
If not, what V8 GM engines would fit to it??

Would a GM engine fit to a Ford 6F55? with enough money and time anything can fit to anything. Will it bolt up? No.

You could fit a Corvette transaxle. It's not exactly short.
