Great fourm, first time reader and poster!!!! - I'm a relativly new FJ-60 owner...putting 10,000 miles on it mainly as a mobile fishing camp for the wilds of Wyoming over the last year and a half. I've had very few problems with my ride since buying it with 140K miles on it, except....

One think I noticed from the begining with my beast is that when in 4H my transmisition will slip out to 2H without any warning....this is irregardless of speed, terain, or if I am pushing the gas. I can hold the gear shift down and prevent it from jumping back to 2H but that is not an ideal fix. Nor is a bunjee cord (which does work). 4L does not have this problem...I must profess my ignorance with most things mechanical but this does not seem like it should be a real complicated deal.. Thanks in advance

Ok, I have a friend whose FJ60 is jumping out of 4L. I searched the archives and this is the only thread I cam up with. I know I should know what it is, but cant remember. Any help would be appreciated.

i found that cutting away the dry rotte and hard inner boot to the low gear shifter worked fine. it was not used enough and was brittle and too stiff. this was an easy fix and free - my two favorites.

pull off the top boot and see the flexibility of the inner. could be as simple as that.
