has anyone installed a trans coller on a fjc with at? was this done at dealer or other shop? how much does this cost? have boat might need to get one any help would be great.

ALL 4wd vehicles with an auto box should DEFINITELY have a transmission cooler. The whimpy juice can't stand heat, so you better install one. Especially if you're gonna tow anything.

so the two lines that go from trans to radiator dont do any cooling or not enough?
In a situation where you are crawling along in 4wd, the transmission fluid overheats because the radiator is having enough work to do with just cooling the engine. So yes a separate trans cooler is necessary. I have seen one at a parts store which says 4X4 trans cooler on it, which is designed for cooling your fluid on 4wd vehicles. I'd check into it.
The fluid in the 5AT is synthetic from the factory so the cooler in the radiator is considered adequate by Toyota. That being said, 4 wheeling and towing really heat up atf. No one has a 'kit' yet but their easy enough to do with some hose, a few clamps and scews.

Over heated auto trans
I got stuck in the sand a while back and managed to make the auto transmission warning light come on. Looks like a cooler would be a good idea.

YES, if your towing you should have an auxilary cooler installed. I did mine about a month and half ago, no problem at all. Just get the trans refill instructions from the service manual, and follow them top the letter. And no the trans is not a sealed unit. It's not hard to do yourself, took me about 30-45 minutes, with refill included. I got the info from a post on another forum, it was a big help.

The light came on during 2 different occasions in OBX last week. I think I need to do this.
Welcome, and that's correct. Toyota put synthetic ATF in the FJ and between that and the standard radiator atf cooler consider it suitable to tow 5000 lbs and for off roading. Adding a aux. atf cooler is cheap insurance.

all great info. what is the best brand to use or will any trans cooler be fine. i have been looking for the b&m with the built in fan but cannot seem to find in my area.
A name brand 'stacked' cooler is the best.(as compared to the tube type.

what are the brands?
Setrab is the absolute best, but B&M, Hayden, etc... will work just fine. These atf coolers don't see a lot of pressure or heat and I've never seen one fail.
