Go to my camping spot, looked over and saw my aux tranny temp gauge went up and then noticed the red at temp light on center console was JUST turning off. Looked under to find every part of tranny and transfer case looked dry EXCEPT for the pto cover on the transfer case was wet and a couple of the bolts had a some fluid drops on them. She was leaking enough that the fluid was sprayed on the rear d-shaft and even wet “fluid-vapor” on the rear bumper! Checked the tranny fluid level the next morning when I woke up and she was low. I’m wondering if I have a tranny to transfer case oil seal failing letting the atf into x- case and then “pushing” out of the pto cover. I was climbing a couple mountains on the way to camping going up. I topped her up with atf before heading back and she ran fine and cool and it looks like the pto cover hadn’t gotten any “more wet”. She’s a ‘91 HZJ77 auto. Any ideas?
