Somewhere on Mud(I think) I remember seeing a fairly straightforward explanation of a "Rodney Flush" for getting a total flush of old tranny fluid and replacement. Now I've been using the search tool and can't find what I need. Anyone have a link to what I'm talking about?? Next payday I'm buying the fluid and doing the flush myself here at the house. I already have the new pan gasket and tranny filter. I haven't openned up this used tranny since you guys installed it for me-how long ago??? 2 years I think? Time to do it. ;)

Got your message, tried to open up one of the fan clutches today and couldn't do it without fear of stripping the philips heads. I tried several different ones and none of them would budge.
I can weld some feet on the ramps you were talking about, I will give you a heads up the next weekend I plan spending some time in the shop.

Thanks Jesse. Those screws are a Beeotch for sure. If I ever get them opened up I'm gonna replace with a hex head bolt instead of screws. ya, just drop me a PM and I'll bring them over.

I'm considering selling the cruiser after Mcgrew. As much as I love it and have lots of memories, what good is it if I can't afford to put gas in it?? Can someone talk me out of it please??:frown:

You have been talked out NOW! :)

Thanks Ty..................words of encouragement are always appreciated. :) Keep it up!

I feel for you Chris! I hope something works out so you don't have to take such drastic measures! I never thought I'd sell The Caird, but other things happened, and I moved on... Maybe if it has to go, you will find something new to play with...

If I do sell it I would want to turn around and pick up a 4 runner like the one Aric just bought. I don't know, last I heard Aric was still fighting to solve problems and get the miles/gallon as high as possible. 9-12 miles per gallon is one thing but 15-18 would be alot better. Thing is though, when you think about it, I have that little Nissan quest to drive back and forth to work. The cruiser pretty much just sits here now unless I want to drive it for some reason and if it's only being driven very rarely then who cares what my mileage is right?? Unless of course I wanted to go to MOab or some other long distance cruise where I had to drive 1000 miles to go wheeling for a weekend, then it costs a lot more. There are so many 4 runners out there and so few FJ62's maybe I'll stick with it. Moby, moby not...?;)

It comes down to whether or not you WANT a Land Cruiser. A 4Runner is nice but it's not as big and that could be a factor with family and associated gear. Mileage isn't as great so you save for the bigger trips.
After Jerod and Ty's epic trip to Moab, which is on my 'to do' list, I'm starting a 2 year plan to get to Moab. The fuel bill alone will be a killer but....it's MOAB!
Plan, save, do!
A family is important as is sustaining the 'general fund'. Better milage/smaller rig or a Land Cruiser?
Do you or do you not want the image and life style of the Land Cruiser. Simple.:hhmm: :bang:
Good luck Chris,

I agree with Russ. My decision to sell my Dodge and buy the LX was mostly financial but I also really missed having a Cruiser. I could have saved myself even more $$ and picked up a 4Runner. I've owned a 3rd Gen before and I really liked it but it's not a Cruiser...

Tranny flush will have to wait for another weekend/payday. 16 quarts of fluid costs more than I thought. *QUESTION# here- Do any of you think I should invest in a tranny "flushing" fluid before I put the new stuff in?? Anyone have an opinion on whether those types of products have any benefit for my situation(used tranny with unknown mileage). I can't afford to waste a dime but will spend the money if it has real value. :)

Copy that and pretty much my thoughts as well. I think it is enough to get out as much of the old fluid as possible, clean the pan out and install a new filter and button it all up. How is your project coming along? Gonna make it to McGrew with it??
