I'm staying in Banner Elk this week with the family. we just finished the GA traverse on the way up and I was hoping to hit a quick trail in the Boone/Banner Elk area with some good spots to let the kids explore. I have a stock 99 LX with K02's.

Any recommendations? I read that Richland rd. has been closed is that true? Thanks in advance.

There is brown mtn ohv area down toward wilson creek. Pretty tame stuff but a place to piddle. But there are some good gravel roads to explore in the area. FSR 192 or rockhouse rd is nice but short ~40 min. Follows a creek and has a couple places to pull of to camp/picnic. I used to wheel a spot up by BE/VC but was unable to locate it last timeni was up there but it has been many years so it may just be gone.

Not sure on final status of richland road. It was always marked private but a legal county deeded road. Too much attention and misuse of private adjacent land caused some tensions lately.

Went up a while back, Richland road is gated now at the bridge.
