Everyone--

I am coming to Utah to visit my kids and grandkids over spring break, and we are hoping to make a quick trip to Emery county -- and specifically to visit Ferron, where my mother/grandmother/great-grandmothers were all born.

And while we are at it we are hoping to do a little Land Cruisering in the area. I was thinking of the San Rafael Swell area. I did some research, and found the Emery County motorized routes map, and found that the BLM just finished a travel management plan, but I didn't find much in the way of specific recommendations.

So I would like to find a loop that either begins or ends in the general area of Ferron/Emery. Mostly just looking for scenery and the chance of camping. And maybe something where we could stop and hike into a canyon. My son and grandson will sleep in the back of the 100, and I will just be on a cot. So we don't need anything fancy in the way of campsites, and dispersed camping is OK assuming dispersed camping is allowed.

My son has a lifted 100 series-- but really just looking for moderate wheeling---so any not-too-crazy trail that allows full size vehicles should work.

Anybody have a recommendation or two?

Thanks much.

Hi Jared, if you find yourself in the St.George area I can show you some areas over by Sand Mountain OHV area, and Sand Hollow. If you would like to do a bit of canyon hiking with amazing views, or even some cindercone hikes I can show you a few places.

Thanks Drake. I don't think we'll make it as far as St. George on this trip, but we love that area too!

Thanks, and I do have relatives in Hurricane I need to visit-- and I have always wanted to explore that area. But as Ryan says, it probably is a little too far for how much time we have next week. But when we have the time we will take you up on that offer.

Thanks again

So I think our current plan is this--

Leave Ferron, turn east on Horn Silver Gulch -Dutch Flat Road
Turn south east down North Fork of Coal Wash
Continue down Fix it Pass
Maybe camp somewhere around Swasey Arch (along Fix it Pass)
Turn left at Cane Wash road
Turn left at Buckhorn Draw Road toward San Rafael River
Stop at San Rafael Bridge
Continue down Buckhorn Draw Road to Castle Dale.

Two issues--- I am not sure if we will really have time for all this.
And I am not sure about Fix it Pass. It is rated as "difficult". I don't know what that really means.

I found youtube videos of people crossing Fix it Pass is standard looking jeeps. So I don't think it will be that bad, although a 100 series is significantly bigger.

Any thoughts?

Jared
