My wife & I will be in Palm Springs for a week on vacation beginning Friday; I'm wondering if anyone has any trails they recommend in or around that area that are suitable for a stock 100 on pavement-friendly Michelins.

Can't wait to lift it and put 285's underneath, but until I do why would I not have some fun with it as it sits :smokin:? I had a ball on Broken Arrow a couple weeks ago and was surprised the ol' stocker did as well as she did. I knew I wasn't in the lifted 80 I had, but the lifted 80 couldn't do 75mph up the mountain like the 100 (it was 2nd gear, screaming, going 35mph on big grades-- a 3fe turning heavy 35" BFGs)

I know I can search the net & I will, just wondering if anyone has thoughts...

Check out Berdoo Canyon Road on the south side of Joshua Tree NP. Easiest for stock 100 going south from inside Joshua Tree National Park. It is listed on the handout when you enter the park from any of the main entrances. It actually is a short cut that allows you to exit the park back in the Palm Springs area. Here is a link to a NPS map.

I did it in a stock Land Cruiser 5 years ago and had no problems going south out of park. Ask a Park Ranger when you enter the park in the north for conditions. It could be washed out and difficult since it is in a dry creak bed 90 % of the trail. If that does not work you could do parts of the Old Dale Mine Road (also accessed in Joshua Tree NP). You may not want to go over the mountain at the half way point without better tires, but that is your call. I did it but was hoping not to cut a tire. Either trails are a good half day trips from Palm Springs and Joshua Tree is awesome to visit anytime.

AWESOME ADVICE and exactly what I was looking for...

Thanks DesertRun!

Can't wait to check it out...

I agree wholeheartedly regarding this area. We used to live in Cucamonga and would go out to Joshua Tree for camping. Took a stock SR5 truck out that way. What a blast! Years ago, but was a lot of fun.

Can't wait to run it in a few days!

OK, now that this has seen a bit of exposure in the 100 section cuz the question was somewhat 100 specific, I'm moving it to Trails for wider exposure.

And, yes, JTNP is a great place to explore. Dale Road was not that hard when I was there 2 or 3 years ago (see write up someplace). Quite a few threads about JTNP here too.

Santa Rosa peak, great view and easy drive up in Pinon above Palm Desert.
Bradshaw Trail from Red Cloud to North Shore.
