We're not wheeling! Not even the 100! So the 80 will go and I hope I won't reget it. This was my second 80 build and I'll not drain the bank to build a 3rd.

1997 LX450 with 138,000 miles

Here's what I have in the thing (including shipping and install):

$10,500 paid in 2/06 with 123,000 miles...it was a rust-free AZ Cruiser!
$3,000 for the Slee 6" Lift Kit (actual height is about 7-inches as the truck is unloaded)
$475 for the Slee Dual-cardan rear driveshaft (needed to reduce vibrations)
$1000 for the Slee tube sliders
$3250 for F&R ARB locking diffs and 4.88 gearset
$800 for F&R custom steal bumpers mounted to F&R cut frames. This vehicle is about 1.5 FEET shorter than a typical ARB/Slee bumpered rig. It will fit and tackle obstacles where they cannot on the trails.
$300 for the Safari Snorkel
$1200 for BFG AT KO tires...315's though you can run 37's with this lift kit.
$250 for the 35-inch-sized spare tire holder box in the rear of the vehicle. No smell of tire inside this thing!
$500 for maintenance upgrades...plugs, wires, power steering hoses, hoses, belts...etc etc.
$250 for new brakes all around
$400 for the 2/3 coverage Rhino Lining including wheel flair removal (to narrow vehicle)
$180 for an Optima Red Top battery
$250 for CB and antenna install...antenna and Cobra Handheld connection stay...CB itself not included.
$800 to fix the leaking rear-main seal
$125 for window tint...legal front and limo everywhere else

TOTAL INVESTMENT...$22,481 ($11,981 in upgrades, build, and options)

UPDATE: 10/20...Forgot to list the complete front axle rebuild in the above list...$1000.

LOTS more information and pics are here...note...most of these are early pics with a 4-ish inch lift, before I stepped up to the Slee 6".

*****************************************************************************************************************

Known issues right now and deduction amounts I used to compensate for them while deciding on my selling price. I think my estimated cuts are aggressive price reductions.

*Small oil drip up front...have not had my mechanic look at it yet.
UPDATE 10/21: No leak! Oil filter was loose. We power washed everything...all is perfect.
*Once a year we have had to recharge the AC ($60) (-$500 to fix the leak...but a recharge once a year is easier)
*Driver's seat leather is "rough" (bought it that way) ($0)
*Sunroof creaks (no leak) (-$200)
*Needs to be buffed from wheeling pinstripes (-$200)..DONE!
*Sliders have a few scrapes and could use a "brush up" (-$25)...DONE!

Here's a Used Value I ran via the web a couple a months ago:
LX450-KBB-L.jpg

OK...SO HOW MUCH DO I WANT FOR IT? After talking with several folks I think a couple of my buddies had the fairest way to figure. Here goes:

*Street Value...$8665.00
*Mods, build, upgrades @ 50%...$5990
*Less needed maintenance...-$925
TOTAL SELLING PRICE...$13,730 via method.

$12,500 takes it as is!

UPDATE ON 10/20: REDUCED....$11,000 as is!
UPDATE ON 10/20: Vehicle is getting a buff job to remove the pinstripes from 4-wheeling...$200

Or you can spend WAY MORE...Go buy a used one for $8500 and add on $12,000 in mods and pay $20,500! Take all the time to build it, etc....no thanks!

The shortened length helps on tight and large obstacles. Look at that ground clearance!

This shows the lift height off. We both have 315's and no flairs. The white '93 has a 4" lift...look at my wheel wells!

REDUCED FOR A QUICK SALE

I was awarded a $1M project that will occupy my time for the next 3-4 months. I have NO time to buff the pinstripe out, take pics, put on Craig's List...NO TIME.

We just passed emissions and renewed the plates. Paying insurance on it. Not using it! It's gotta go!

$11,000...come on over with a Cashier's Check and pick it up!

$11,000

UPDATE AS OF TODAY: My mechanic was free so I took it by.

*OIL LEAK WAS NOTHING...A LOOSE OIL FILTER! He fixed it up and power washed everything so it's set! THIS IS BIG!

*I am having at buffed and polished. Gonna cost about $200.

*Knowing there's no oil leak and everything else is in great shape plus it'll look nice again paint-wise...and we're not four-wheeling it any more...SOMEBODY BETTER BUY THIS THING BEFORE I CHANGE MY MIND.

TWO QUICK PICS:

Just buffed the paint (except the roof). Needs a car wash still.

Next up...re-painting both bumpers. Then...touch up the sliders. It'll be slicker than slick!

When complete I'll post some good final pictures.

My answers today to an inquiree:

Good Morning,

I've been looking at your '97 LX for a while now and have a few questions for you.

What is the total height of the rig as it stands today?

How many miles are on the BFG tires or how many do you think are remaining?

What does the truck need as far as maintenance items in the next couple of months or few thousand miles?

**********************

It's 82 1/2 inches tall.

Tires were put on when I bought it so they're about 1/2 gone....EXCEPT for one. One is new...it wasn't holding air and they couldn't find a leak so they gave me a new one. The matching spare is good for a spare though not new.

Geeze...an oil change? We did everything and that was only what...15K miles ago. I've not looked at the brakes for some time. I have an extra set of pads...I think rears, not sure.

I'd fly out and drive it back. It's ready to go.

*Since the buff job it looks so good I'm going to re-brush/paint the bumpers and touch up the sliders. When I get it done I'll take a some pics. I'll be proud!

*If I were to give somebody a "list" of things to do it's just those few things I listed on the post.

I think I have the factory drive shafts still as well.

unpossible!

hey, is the front bumper winch compatible, or have the frame ends been modified at all so as to preclude mounting another bumper that is winch-compatible?

You'd have to re-work it. Like the guy did who bought my '93 and it was frame cut as well.

The first 2 pics shows his workmanship. So the cut frame has no effect on installing a winch.

It's ready and man does it look good. Going on eBay for $11,000 Buy It Now on Wednesday...maybe Thursday. Bumpers repainted...this thing is sweet! If I didn't buy that new Grand Sport Corvette I might have kept it and NOT wheeled it any more.

I hear ya! But we've held on to Trailex for some time just to make sure. Now that we restored the outside it will be harder than ever to see it go. There will never be another SUV llike it made. I still have my 100 and it'll keep me Cruiser Happy down the road.

Looking forward to picking this beauty up this weekend.

Congrats Fjrohrs...that was a good buy. Thank you for buying it before I did. I really didn't need another rig....but I'm a sucker for a good deal :) ENJOY!

You can never have too many rigs IMO. What if you need to dramatically mod one of them? What would you drive in the meantime? :steer:

Well, Spenser picked it up yesterday. When we got in our 100 to pull away I had chills...I knew I'd never have another 80 again...wow, what a feeling actually seeing it go!

Spenser seems like a stand-up guy and I expect him to enjoy what WAS "Trailex". Enjoy Spenser!
