Hi Guys,

My LC came with a trailer brake accessory and the only wiring I see is the little plug in the image. All I have is a utility trailer with a flat 4 pin plug. Does anyone know if there's an adapter from what's in the image to the 4 pin ?

I'm not sure why the picture isn't showing, it seems to work ok if I click on it.

In any case, I searched for the adapter, but my plug looks more oval than round (like the adapter ). Maybe I'm looking at the wrong plug underneath the car.

I see the photo now after clicking on it. It looks like you might need a tail light converter with a 4-way plug. My truck doesn't have the harness plug under the car, it's behind the left tail lamp.

Someone that also has a truck that didn't come with a 4 way connected can probably chime in.
Tail light harness has a connector from left to right side. It's about 3/4 of the way over from left to right side.

The cable with the 4-way plug connects between the factory harness connectors. Simple.

OP should make sure truck has the updated tail light converter box from Toyota or a good aftermarket source.

If OP has a brake controller, he'll also need to add his own wiring from the brake switch to the controller, and from the controller back to the trailer. This obviously takes something other than a flat 4-pin connector.

Hi guys,

THanks for all the feedback. The brake controller was already installed from the previous owner. I don't need it, I doubt I'll ever trailer anything that heavy. I mostly just haul my motorcycle to the track and occasionally some house/yard waste to the dump.

When you guys say behind the tail light, should I be looking inside the car for the wires/plugs you mention ? I just assumed it was the plug I found, but perhaps not. So is there a panel for access to the tail lights from inside ?

I don't have it with me at the moment, so I can't check, but will when I get home later.

Thanks

The connector I mentioned is under the car near the exhaust pipe.

If you want to see if you have an OEM tail light converter installed, you can remove the left corner tail lamp assembly (just two screws and it pops out towards the outboard side of the vehicle). If the tail light converter is there, it will be inside & above the opening on the c-pillar. If it's the Toyota one, it may be junk. There is a good thread on here to replace it with after market.

Weird you have a brake controller and no 7-round or 4-way on the back, maybe the PRev owner took it. You might be able to plug straight into that square 6-pin under the truck with something like that etrailer harness I posted (May have to clean the leads if it's been exposed for a long time). Etrailer had really good customer service by the way, if you don't get all the help you need on here.
