Trailer Wireing Harness

I put the pintel hook on my '97 but I can not find a trailer wireing harness. If it does not have one will someone direct me to instruction on the best places to tie in.

Common hitch companies like Reese, Valley and Hoppy make OEM-style modulators for the LC. They tap into existing wiring conenctors that are in the passenger rear between the cargo wall and fender...you have to remove the carpet threshold and right rear cargo panel to get there. Did your truck not come with a frame hitch?

Hoppy is the simplest plug and play right into your existing wiring harness! Been there done that!! About $45 for an internet shopper.

SORYY I DON'T KNOW WHAT A FRAME HITCH IS. iF YOU MEAN A WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION HITCH IT DID NOT. JUST THE FOUR HOLES TO ATTATCH THE PINTLE HOOK TO.

Tommorow I'll have that carpet up and look. ALSO for this newbie dummy what is a modulator? I don't need trailer electric breaking.
 
A frame hitch is a full hitch that bolts onto your frame under the truck. A pintle hitch in those four holes on the rear frame crossmember will NOT tow as much weight. The modulator being spoken about is a converter box that converts the running light, brake and turn signals from the truck to a std 4-pin harness for a trailer. The Hoppy harness I've used in the past has the converter box that plugs right into your LC's wiring harness right behind the PS rear quarter panel. It has one wire that runs over to the DS and plugs in there. A last set of wires runs thru a grommet up under the PS of the truck out to the hitch area. Hope that helps a little more.

Okay, a frame hitch as noted attaches to the frame and in the case of the LC makes it a Class III rated setup. Most of these trucks had them installed at the port when they came off the boat. At the same time they would have installed a small black box per the above pics called a modulator, which converts the LC wiring scheme in to a four flat wire trailer setup, which would have been hanging under the truck and likely zip-tied to your hitch. The modulator would be in one of the rear wheel compartments behind the brown plastic cargo panel (more often on the right than left). Both the hitch and the modulator are readily available on the web or eBay.

I also use the 4-bolt hole for my pintle adapter for my M416 trailer and it is not nearly as strong as the frame hitch. I wouldn't tow anything weighing more than 800-1200 lbs with the pintle hitch.
 
Not in the side panel, but outside under the truck, just behing the back bumper and in the center, I found a three wire female plug with wires colored Green, Green with White, and Red with Black. is this it?
 
The black plugs in my picture are next to the spare under the truck. The white connectors are on the Draw-Tite adapter I got from e-trailer.
