Did any of the military trailers come with larger than the standard looking 9.00x16 type tires?

Does anyone have a military trailer as wide as the 80's trackwidth?

If so, was it an axle swap, spacers, or a combo of the 2 to get it as wide as the towing rig?

Could I make a pair of 325/85/16 tires fit and work on a military type trailer?

Any downfalls to using a giant tire on the trailer besides load height?
 
What military trailer are you asking about? The 3/4 ton trailers came with 900X16's but the 1/4 ton trailers like the M416 or the M101 CND came with 600X16, I believe.
I have 7.50X16 on my Willys MBT 1/4 ton trailer. It is about the biggest you can go w/out spring mods or SOA.
I believe a 3/4ton or larger trailer would be too heavy behind an 80. Those things are enormous and are best suited behind a 3/4 ton or 1 ton pickup.
If you are looking for a 1/4ton trailer to tow behind your 80, I would go SOA with a custom axle to fit the track width of your 80.

I read through that thread and see how people do a spring over setup and its about the height they like.

DesertDude's pic shows that the trackwidth rides just inside his 80's tireprint on the sand.

Would there be any issues with the trailer tires riding in the same exact width of the 80s tires? It seems that if people take them on any trails, they steer the truck up on the proper line only to have the trailer fall in the holes and want to flip over...

Just because a trailer tracks well doesn't mean it shouldn't still be spotted over the same obsticle as the tow vehicle. You wouldn't spot the front tires and just guess on the rear's placement, same idea when getting a trailer through a tough spot.

I think your question is answered better with a good deal of spotting verses trackwidth and other factors.

My scratch-built trailer has a hub-to-hub width the same as an FJ60, which is what I owned when I built the trailer. It's a standard 3500 HD axle and hubs sprung over, and I currently have 31X10.50 tires on 6X5.5 wheels. I will change to 33" on 16" stock 80 rims soon as I find a set of three...

An axle with the same hub-to-hub width as you cruiser should be simple to set up using standard trailer parts. I like the idea.

I too have a question about tires and all. I have a M101CDn that I put on the hub package from Southwest wheel, L0655LB3E 6-5.5, works very well. I had intended to use the 07 FJ Cruiser 265/70/17 Alloy wheels on the trailer. Being very green at doing anything automotive, I tried to put on a FJ wheel.

The first problem is that the stud on the hub, which I don't know the size of, is larger than the Toyota stock 12mm lug.

I then tried to use the lug nuts that came from Soutwest Wheel. The Toyota OEM lugs are that counter sunk kind with the washer type, so the lugs that came with the hubs don't work because their not the counter sunk type, they can't reach the studs.

Any Ideas would be helpful!

Welcome Paul,

I bet you simply need to have a few toyota studs pressed into the new hubs. Or you could get down to a tire shop and have them hook you up with the right lug nuts to fit the studs and the wheels.

There is still nothing like stepping from the ashes directly into the fire. You need to take a look at replacing studs to wheel pattern, they will work, just take it easy and success will ride with you.
 
O.S.B. Try talking to a really good tire shop. I have heard of guys with aftermarket rims going onto Toyota rims having funny issues with the new type lug nuts.

SO someone should be able to help you out. I saw your post on the M101 forum. But I hardly answer on there. As the forum format is annoying to use IMOP. I like this forum better. But the M101 group is extremely informed.

But yout FJC question is a first time install of those wheels that I know of.
