Im looking to build a trailer for my FJ40 and I was wondering if someone could post some pics of their trailers, particularly of the hitch set up. If there is a thread already about this im sorry, im new.

Thanks
Paul

Not sure if you're talking the hitch on the truck itself. If so, then the simplest set-up is installing a pintle hitch.

The FJ40 already has the holes in the rear crossmember to bolt it on. On the FZJ80, the top holes have a nut already installed for the bolts, while you'll need both bolts and nuts for the lower two holes. It's been a long time, so I don't remember if this is the same for a 40, but the holes to install the pintle are definitely there.

You can also get a hitch from Man-A-Fre that bolts to the same holes, but provides a 2" receiver to install the standard ball-type hitch as you prefer.

Well I had asked the question on the other thread does anyone have a pic of the lunette pintle type hitch. Someone else had a max coupler. I was just wondering what they look like. I guess they would have pics on manafre. Thanks guys.

Works as it should, But very noisy, So I have heard.
I have a Max-Coupler

Ya thats the kind we use at work. The one I saw and would like to use does not have play in it like this one. It swivels up and down and side to side like the trailer is solid with the truck. Its kind of hard to explain. If that makes any sense do you know what I am talking about?

Thats it, thanks alot

There has been some chat about that coupler binding and bending when you try to back up the trailer on uneven ground, I have a friend that has used his for years without issue and another who has already bent his.
Good luck with your decision

Have used the Loc and Roll hitch on a number of trails and eveen Swamp Lake in Calif . Had absolutely no problem going forward or backing up . Had a lunette and Pintle hitch. very strong but just got so tired of the noise from it not only on the trail but on the Highway. Ken's off rd trailer 004.webp
